my trans has the stupid reverse synchro rattle. i installed a new synchro and wave spring but it still rattles on decel. i know this wont hurt anything but its annoying and there has to be some way to quiet it down. has anyone come up with a fix for this that doesnt require rebuilding the entire trans or not really?

Are you talking about the sort of whine it makes when you get going pretty fast in reverse?

no thats normal. this is the syncho rattling around on the circular hub it sits on and the only thing to stop it from rattling is the stupid wave spring which barely does its job

the problem is this. i just need to find a way to silence it

What clutch are you running?

Jack pretty much summed it up.

Have you inspected/replaced the reverse cone itself?? What are your bearing preloads on the shafts?

Decel harmonics are normally clutch/rotating assembly related.

its an act clutch. and ya ive took it apart like 4 times to try to find a way to stop the rattle. i was even thinkin about shimming the rev cone out a bit to make it tighter but i dont know if that would be a good idea. it doesnt look like anything is worn at all but its annoying to hear it rattle every day

The brand doesn't tell me anything. Which specific model, which specific disk, which disk hub? I.e. ACT 2900# PP with sprung hub sintered iron 6-puck disk.

Instead of engine braking, shift to neutral and use your brakes.

I dont know. it came with the car. i was told the act 2600, it is a springed disc. any type of vibration will make it rattle so i guess it just is what it is. I just wish i could make it have a bit more pressure on the reverse synchro to stop the rattle.

What's your tolerances? Have you checked to see if there's to much slop between the hub and syncro sleeve? Or sleeve to clutching teeth on the reverse gear?

Also, call me blind, but I don't see a reverse gear in the diagram? I see the 5th gear syncro ring and intermediate gear that sends power to the ring n' pinion.
