I know there if a ton of information on this and I have read up but I was wanting to know more about fuel and tuning.

I love my 99 GST automatic and was thinking of having the engine rebuilt to spec professionally as well as the transmission. I was going to see about getting a new engine harness too (replacing old rubber sensor plugs) as well as all new sensors. New power steering, suspension, the works ha.

What I want to do is maybe get a brand new t28 because it is a direct bolt on from the t25. I am not looking for big power numbers by any means. I was also looking into a small or evoIII 16G (which ever one had the quicker spool) just to get a little extra juice out of the old girl if I rebuild her.

I want it to feel and look stock and reliable as it has been with it's 132k miles. I want a turbo that spools as close to the t25 but just to add a little more juice. For that I want a reliable tune, I will probably get a new fuel pump and injectors and ecm link, but how reliable do you think it will be? If not I may just rebuild the t25 because it is great car to deal with traffic with.

But like I said I am not looking for big power numbers, just a while I am in there, if I can bolt on a t28 and get a little more power with around the same spool than awesome!

T-28 is a proven performer in the DSM community. It is been around a while and is very capable. For decent power with it, you could feed it with a 190lph pump and 600-700cc range for injectors. Evo 8-9 injectors and pump with also be a nice compromise for OE quality parts. It pairs nicely with a super sidemount for a stealthy appearance. The EVO III 16g is also very capable and requires only a handful of items to bolt directly to a 2g.

For your goals, a stock rebuild will be plenty for either turbo.

I may go t28 so I don't have to get the conversion kit just to stay oem as possible. I will get another thicker side mount, oil cooler, and transmission cooler as well to keep its life up. What injectors should I run? I have head the bigger you go, the more problems. With a t28 on pump 93.

The TB2578 (T28 as it's known collectively) has the same compressor spec as a Small 16G.

The TB2578 has the largest wheelset available in the journal bearing Garrett "T2" platform, yet the Small 16G has one of the smallest wheelsets in the Mitsu "TD05H" platform. The Small 16G would be cheaper, easier to find, spool quicker, and would be more-reliable in the long run.

Great info! Although my t25 has had no issues and no service with 130k after 16 years. I guess it will boil down to what I can find, can you buy a t28 that can bolt onto a dsm brand new?

Yes you can. I have one but you'll have to search pretty hard to find one new. I love mine but I think I'm out flowing my turbo now so it might be time to put the 20g on. I love it and won't say anything bad about it. Price is a little pricy for what they are but its a great turbo. I will say if you're not planning on running it around 17-22 psi the turbo will not be that much quicker then the t25.

That's also a stock turbo at stock boost levels. Increase the wheel size and double the boost then see what happens. ;)

That's like comparing the lifespan of a TD05H 20G to a 14B.

Not unless you can find new old stock somewhere....the TB2578 has been discontinued by Garrett as of 5-6 years ago.

Last i talked to forced performance they said they could still make one with your old t25 (was a year or two ago though) great lil turbo ?..Ive had mine since 2008 and beat the crap outta it..been trying to kill it the last year of racing (20-25psi race gas 8000rpm shifts) still going..haha passed ca smog and I tell people it's a stock turbo (looks just like a t25)

Awesome guys, thanks! For fuel I might go 550cc injectors with the Walbro 190lph, just for new clean injectors and a new fully tip top shape fuel pump. Do I need to hot wire the 190 fuel pump or should the stock wiring be enough? I wouldn't think it would need THAT much juice. I will probably be running 17-18psi just to keep it reliable and keep the automatic safe, I don't plan on high rpm driving or launching, just something fun to drive around.

And I understand what you are all saying about the small 16g, and good info, but I just kinda want to keep it stock besides the cooling and fuel.

EVO 8/9 injectors are a cheap solution using OE parts. Just have them sent out to be cleaned and flow tested. The 190 pump would be fine, but would still suggested rewiring it. The rewire just provides a much more consistent voltage to the pump. A good example of voltage drop is listening to an an OE wired pump with the turn signal on.
