[RESOLVED] Piston Ring Installation 4G63

We got new piston rings for my friends 4G63. Is there a certain way to align them? I KNOW not to have them lined up , I have seen customers at my lost job do that before. But anything you guys and guru's have for me would be great!

before you install the rings on the pistons, check your ring end gap in the cylinder bore...

when you check the gap in the bore,

you push the ring down(with the piston) how far down? to the middle of the cylinder? or the top or bottom?

about an inch, I use a piston so the ring stays square in the bore.

if you are running a used block with just a hone job, check it at 3 spots, about an inch from the top, in the middle and then about an inch or so from the bottom. Most wear occures at the top of the bore, so ther will be some taper to the bore. so what is right at the top, may be tight at the the bottom.

If the block was bored,and the shop did it right, you should just have to do the top.
