I had picked up a 6 bolt motor that had je pistons and eagle rods. i'm not sure if the cylinder wall have been bored or what. assuming it's stock bore (85mm).

Can i get stock oem rings or any other brand name rings and put it in with the je pistons (85mm)? Or does the rings have to be je piston rings?

I have come across different brands of pistons, were they were the same spec. But the ring grooves were different for the top compression ring, were as the 2nd compression ring was about the same.

best advice.... I would just get the JE rings so there will be no guess work.....

Okay, Im getting new .020 over je rings. How would I know which way to face the rings(gap)? I know how to file them to gap spec but when putting it on the piston and in the cylinder, I'm not sure which way to face the gap part of the ring. If someone can tell me how to face each rings including the oil ring, i'd appreciated.

front means the front of the piston or front of the engine or the time belt end of the engine

yes set all 4 pistons with the rings like this.

well belive it or not. the rings move around the piston when run, so the big thing just do not line up the gaps in the rings to start with.

Ok. the wrist pin is horizontal to the ground, this is the "link pin" that connects the piston to the conecting rod.

now the conecting rod is vertical to the ground.

since you are working with a 1g bottom end the pistons are normally press fit.....

now JE shouls be on aftermarket con rods and should be hung with wrist pin clips

I used total seal rings, no problems..also, I did a pattern on my rings so that no gap was on top of any other gap

So for the two top rings, basically doesn't matter which side the gap faces, just as long as they are not on top of each other according to the picture right?

correct, also do not stack the gaps of the the oil scraper rings and spacer

What about the oil ring? Not talking about the oil rail.

Another question. There are two type of silicone aluminum alloy for the pistons. 2618 non-silicone and 4032 high silicone aluminum alloy. How would I identify which one my pistons are? Or would it not matter since I'm just putting in the rings.

starting from the top of the piston ring 1 is the top compression ring, 2nd is the 2nd compression ring

now in the 3rd position is the "oil scraper ring set" made up of 3 parts 2 rings and oil ring seperator/spacer ( its called a oil rail in the above picture)

To anyone that know this, JE pistons have four grooves on the top of pistons. two bigger groove on one side and two smaller grooves on the othe side. I was told the two bigger grooves stay on the exhaust side and the small groove on the intake side when installing. Is this correct?
