I've of course searched. . . I have not ever pittled w/ an automatic transmission. . . I broke the transmission pump gear that goes around the torque converter shaft. Just as this guy did.

I believe I need to pull the entire pump assembly. I attempted to take the pump out and see that the pump won't come out with the bolts in the bellhousing removed.

Is the pump held by just the bolts seen in the bellhousing? Do I have to break the pumpkin to get to other bolts? or do I have to go in and push out the pump?

Thanx for your reply,

I didnt play with my AT when I dropped it down to swap it, but looking at CAPS - I see 6 bolts holding it on.

Maybe the o ring is giving you problems?

Thank you very much for the picture. It des look like the o-ring is doing an acceptional job at sealing :) . I'll muck with it a little more tomorrow armed with this blow-apart pic.

I think I cracked the inner gear of the pump . . . which I see has no part number!

Not sure what year youre working on......

And thats with a discount. Its over $350 for the assembly. OMG But its not looking like there is a PN for that gear.

Id try to locate another used pump and grab the gear out of that.

Well I couldnt find the PN for the part mini is talking about but I did find a handy AT overhaul manual for the F4A21, F4A22 & F4A23. It doesnt mention any special tools though.

Thanx guys! There's no real difference between the "F" and the "W" for the sake of rebuild other than the viscous coupler and the center diff output shaft, correct? I'm working on an awd.

Yep. I cracked the transmission pump inner gear! Good advice from 19gale2gGST lead me to just using a screwdriver and hammer. 45 minutes later I see an inner gear in 4 pieces and jammed against itself and the outer gear.

Does anyone have a used a/t pump :) ? I don't think it matters, but this car was build in august 1990 (AWD a/t).

Wow I didnt even think of IPT. Goes to show how much we play with AT.

Now dont go breaking that new $55 gear.

I will certainly and gingerly install that torque converter onto the transmission first! I'm such an impatient a$$. The car would be back together by now, if I had only stopped to look at the bloody transmission shaft for a moment! Shows how much I knew about automatics before this fiasco.
