Mountain home, Arkansas
ok so i was on my way into town today, car was running good just cruising up and down the mountains, i let off the gas and coast watching the WB my signal goes to 18:1 as its just coasting as soon as i hit the gas to go up the hill car starts sounding like a WRX i look over at the WB its reading 9.2:1 so im thinking damn so much for thes BPR8ES plugs, there gone. I drive home and pull the plugs, replace them with some BPR7ES's and try to restart the car, still running like ass i suspect one of the coils or igniter pack. I replace both and restart the car, still running like ass and sounding like a wrx i decide to do a compression test, the results are 160,0,160,160. so i perform a leakdown test and discover its valve related. After i pull the valve cover i was shocked to find one of my crower springs broken but no bent valve. I'm so pissed as i was in the process of selling this car. I have never had a breakdown on this dsm! Im going to call crower and see if i can get some replacement springs or a refund or something, I keep you guys posted. btw this happend at 3200+/- rpms. My rev limiter is set for 8250 As well. I have never taken it to the rev limit either.

I'd be happy if I broke a valve spring and all I had to do was replace the spring, cylinder head repairs aren't cheap bro... I'd say you made out good.

i havnt pulled the head yet but im hoping that my 1mm O/s valves are going to be fine. Just hoping the broken spring didnt allow the valve to make contact and kiss a piston.

what installed height is the spring set at?
you have some big cams in it?

stock height as these are stock replacement. I have hks 272's for cams. head was built by AMS, am at a loss for why this happened. I called and emailed crower today, no contact as of yet.

do you know the net lift of the cam?

did you check the installed height before the springs were installed?

I have installed about 15 sets of the BC springs with out any issue, BUT, you may have just got a bad one, it happens from time to time, with any spring.

I am sure Brain will take care of you. I have talked to him a few times over the years.

they are Crower springs not BC springs. called some shops up and nobody has had this happen, they suggested that Crower should honor an exchange. so ill be happy if they do:)

I had recently dealt with BC on my cam issues and they were awesome with helping me out. Check my thread on cams hitting caps for the story. I got new cam, 1mm os valves and their springs and retainers for the trouble. Id give you the number, but I don't think it is my place to do that. Hope they help ya!

got the car torn down pretty quick, removed the valve and the head, valve had kissed the piston but thank god for stainless steel valves, didn't bend the valve at all. as for the spring well heres a shot of the spring removed.

talked to zack at Crower and he said no problem and sent me a new spring. so all is good and the car is running strong!
