Ok I have searched and searched and while some others had a similar problem it wasn't my problem exactly. Car drives fine for like the first 20 minutes and then it accelerates horribly. This happens in any gear. It doesn't seem so bad in the lower rpm's but is still noticeable. And if I drive it for an extended period of time it will start to backfire. Everybody says plugs and wires but that is common sense to me so I have already changed plugs, wires, coil tested good. I tried to get it scanned at auto zone but they told me they can only do 96 and up. And I don't have a scan tool of my own so I need help. Oh also, i took a hose and listened to the injectors and one isn't clicking as loud so I need to look into to that but I thought with the slight backfiring it would be a ignition issue. Any help is appreciated.

are you throwing a check engine light? for 95's you can do something called "key dance" search for that and you can check CEL's

you should definitely have your injectors checked out... i had a similar issue with mine and checked out to be an injector took a crap on me

ugh. Dont go installing the new injectors right away. Your 95 should still plug in just tell the guys at Oreillys its a 96. My 95 Talon has the OBDII port. Is there a CEL? I just spent two weeks trying to figure out what was wrong with a 96 avenger w 420a and it was CAM sensor. It ran great until it warmed up. Then it experienced //sluggish acceleration//backfire//dying// etc etc etc...

If I recall injectors are like 90 each for the NT cars so be careful about throwing parts at it :thumb:

Well i went ahead and ordered them because the one wasn't clicking but I got them for 35 bux from the classifieds. And there is no cel so i figured a scan is pointless. Is there a way to test that sensor?

And i could just key dance anyway but as I said there is no CEL

yes thats the one. Driver side front corner of the valve cover. If yours still has the factory style plug instead of the newer updated one then i bet its original and probably going bad. Like I said when i found out this was the problem I was kinda happy irritated all at once :p

YES. heres a hint. The pigtail for the coil cam sensor crank sensor and some speed sensors are all the same. Try finding a dodge neon i think 95-96 should have the same plug as yours. 97-99 eclipse NT should have the newer one. If you buy one from Oreillys they come w the pigtail for like $65.. if you have the newer version the same applies to the 97-99 you could find any NT car at salvage and the coil pack cam sensor and crank sensor all have the newer updated plug. Its flat on ONE side and has the noticeable RED safety lock on the connector. :D

Thanks a lot man. So do you think that is the problem then? Your car had the same symptoms? I have to get this thing running and it has been a year of problems. Not to mention the wife think it's a total POS:D But I love it.

Ok didn't put new injectors on because I recieved the wrong ones but i did put a new cam sensor and pigtail on and now I drove like 5 minutes down the road and the rpm's hesitated to come back down from 2000 and when I pulled over to check it the rpm's would drop to about 500 then jump to 1500 over and over.:barf: So anybody have any idea what's next?

heres the pic of the IAC. Dont get your panties in a wad just yet.. it could be just the PCV valve. Its located inline between the valve cover and the intake manifold. The hose connected to it kind of L's over the top of the coil. Take the PCV valve out and shake it. Make sure it rattles give it a good cleaning or replace it.

the pcv does rattle but there is a plastic tube that comes out of a rubber hose and the plastic piece has a little metal thing in it so I don't see how it wouldn't rattle. Next I will check and clean the IAC.

Ok cleaned the IAC and TB. Nothing changed. Spark plugs are reading between 3.4 and 4.4 ohms and chilton suggest 8k. Replace again with new ones? Sick of seeing this car parked with the hood up.

Also did a compression test and got 165,165,170,165. I know this is low for this car but is it reasonable? And also got new Bkr6e's.

Ok let me ask this a different way... What makes a car backfire?

I'm just gonna run down the list of possible causes.

1. Clogged fuel filter
2. Bad fuel pump
3. Injectors
4. sensor (if so what sensor could cause this)

example:
1. yes
2. yes
3. no
4. yes, cam sensor

Somebody please give me ideas. I'm off the next 2 days so I will have plenty of time to work on my car and I would like to get it running.

Sounds more like a really bad boost cut problem to me my tsi and my friends gst had the same problems with our cars. Including the back fire problem. so could be easy as injectors and fuel or just a good tune.
