Guys could someone, explain why a 98 gst has no coolant sensor??? the reservoir doesnt get any wires... and i see nothing around... maybe my gst didnt come with it? Its weird because as far as my VIN number says its a premium one so it should have it... If does not, is there any way to make it work? buy a reservoir with a sensor and connect it somewhere.. and tell the ecu that exists?? - YES i know it not a computer BIOS but i just want my light to go on!!! haha. Some times it gets empty... there might be leak, in the reservoir cap as it got burned from previous owner and enters a little air (by the way that cap its impossible to find unless i buy a new reservoir, if someone knows where to get one)
thanks a lot!!

Does the 96 model have the sensor? My 97 (build date on the door jam says june 96) didn't have one on the bottle and the light in the dash NEVER came on when my rad hose blew and I lost a massive amount of coolant. I am guessing that that sensors function was to let you know your overflow bottle was empty??

According to CAPS, it would appear not.

Research continues to support the 2GA's do support this indication, and the 2GB do not. I looked in the 97-99 DSM Electrical Manual and could not find ANY info on this function. However, when I went to ALLData and pulled up the 95 Diagrams, I did find the circuit diagrams, see below. For those inclined, you could trace your wiring and see if you have these wires installed (my guess is yes), but are missing the plug for the sensor within the bottle. I can't believe they had different 'harnesses' going between the dash and the engine bay...but I have seen stranger things on a DSM! Enjoy!

Hope this helps!

My curiosity though was that ASA shows that all years have it. That was all. It's been verified that 2ga's have it and 2gb's don't.

I would like to know:
-why ASA doesn't distinguish this?
It wouldn't be the first time Mitsu didn't update ASA or their manuals or have a tech bulletin. See here where I talked to a mechanic right at a Mitsubishi dealer (about existence of the "generator relay" on which models/years had them - mine doesn't have one but the manual says it does) and he told me:

"He said it was probably a cost savings thing that got done at the factory or post engineering which often doesn't show up in the manual. He couldn't even find a tech bulletin about it but he said that's not uncommon for a cost saving change like this."

So I think it may have been a cost saving move to not update ASA, etc for every little change that occurs. My 99 owners manual correctly does not show any coolant low level light which is correct for my car.

Does anyone else think this thread is being blown way out of proportion for a minor issue like this? Of course I should talk - I'm one of the contributors!

^^ Ditto. :)

I see the sensor listed for the 2ga (MB906496 - different than part number from ASA). There are also 2 part numbers for the tank assembly (also different from ASA numbers). Nothing for the 2gb (forgot to look at the tank assembly for 2gb...remote desktop to a virtual machine is slooooooooooow).

The part number for the switch on turbo models is MB924120. I show MB906496 for the '95 non-turbo models. As well, the two tank numbers for the non-turbo models are (1995) MB906434 and (1996+) MB957770.

Don't tell me that's what you were looking at. :tease:

I beleive people is interested on even simple matters like this, if not it would not go this far, Also noone would like to have it on a 2gb?

its so weird why they did not continue it in its last 2g version...
I would love to have it , personally, maybe its a stupid thing, but its a personal meaning...

I have to agree with it not working too well. The sensor isn't very well protected from damage either, being just some wires projecting into the coolant bottle.

So, if I have 99 GST can I moved reservoir bottle and sensor and it should work? Maybe some fixing like with fog lights and the indicator should work?

This is great sensor to know that my coolant level is low or empty...
