Was going to replace my front crankshaft seal, timing belt, and oil pan gasket. I know better than to skimp on the timing belt, I've heard not to skimp out on anything under the hood that moves. But would getting just any crankshaft seal and oil pan gasket from a parts store like advance auto be alright? Or should I stick to OEM quality parts. I'm pressed for time and my dad volunteered to do the work for me, he doesn't care about quality at all when it comes to new parts but then again he drives a honda that never goes above 4k rpm. Rubber is rubber I'd like to think, opinions on that? Also I see from all the vendor sites timing belts are $75 and up, but I can get a gates timing belt from rockauto for $25. I'd go with oem tensioner and pulleys but what's up with this belt being ridiculously cheap and being gates quality?
which is it? I see gates timing belts for $100 but then on rock auto from parts stores it's like $25, I'm just trying to make sense of this situation since it obviously looks to be smarter to get one for $25 instead of $110
not what i asked for but thanks anyway, i have my car jacked up on stands with a jack supporting the motor. not waiting 3-5 days (next week) for an 18 dollar seal, i can find it cheaper everywhere else too (online and in stores)
