I have a 1997 eclipse gst and one day about 3 weeks ago my car just stops working. It would crank and turn over then die immediately. After a couple of times it would just crank but not turn over so I had it towed home. I tested to see if it was getting any spark and it was so I assumed it was the fuel pump so I replaced it with a walbro 190lph pump about 3 days ago. It started right up and ran fine until today I got to work and it did the same thing it did 3 weeks ago, cranked and turned over then died immediately then wont even turn over. I got mad so I took out the back seat at work and removed the metal cover and hit the pump a few times then it started right up and drove fine, didn't cut out. Does anyone have any ideas what could be going on? thanks

Thanks for the fast reply. The white connector terminals attached to the top of the pump do like corroded. Would a pump rewire kit fix the terminals?

Where would I be able to get that? Local hardware store or order online?

So I was checking out the wiring and peeled some old electircal tape off that didn't look like it was originally supposed to be there and was pretty much falling off anyways and noticed that the wire was actually exposed, would that possibly be causing the problem?

If the tape you peeled off was covering that exposed wiring, I doubt that was your problem. Someone probably cut off the insulation to test for voltage while leaving everything connected, not the most desirable method. The terminal in the connector on the other hand looks burnt or corroded. Go to a junkyard, snip a good connector, cut off your bad connector, solder the wires together and heatshrink the splices. While you are at it, make sure the mating connector is ok.

Alright I checked the both connectors they both look burnt so look through a junk yard and try and find both. The tape that was on wasn't really wrapped it was covered in dirt and slid right off where the wire was exposed. The guy before me definitely did not take care of this car when I got it there was a bolt in the second piston head that blew a hole through the piston and I had to have the engine rebuilt along with it having a clutch from god only knows what car because it was to big and was chipping away at the casing. Slowly I'm bringing this car back to life.
