I recently experienced the joy of replacing a broken door handle and as many of you know it was a royal pain in the ass. After buttoning everything back up (with the exception of the interior door panel) I close the door and pull on the new handle, to my suprise nothing happens. SO i climb back in and looking inside the door I can see that when I pull up on the handle the connecting rod goes down. (or up, i can't remember right now) the point is that the handle is attached via a little white clip to a rod that does something but doesnt open the door.

Any ideas as to what I might have done wrong? I don't really feel like pulling the passenger side apart to see which one of these things is not like the other on account of its been about 20 degrees outside lately.

I noticed during installation that the white clip could be attached in either an up or down position. By that I mean the clip swivelded in a way that it could be atteced higher or lower on the bar. I believe I installed mine in such a way that the clip was attached right at the base of the slight bend in the rod.

Sorry if I am not being descriptive enough, just ask if you need any more info to make an educated opinion of whats going on here.

Thanks in advance dudes.

If the rod and the clip are in that position, the handle should open the door.

Okay by looking at that I'm thinking that I just have the clip attached to the rod but the rod is not in that hole like that. That may be my problem. Ill go take a look and see if thats it.

The rod has to be in that hole. That is how the handle opens the door.

Exactly right. I didn't have the rod through the hole I just had it clipped on. Now its all put back together and working fine.

This car has been sitting for the better part of a year due to me having the dashboard apart and breaking the door handle plus I thought the starter was out but it turns out that the battery was so dead it wouldn't take a jump start.

Any advice as to things that need to be done to a car that has been sitting for a while besides

Oil change
New gas
Auto tranny flush
????

Most manufacturers are against flushing transmissions. It can force debris through the trans and possibly finish off an already dirty filter. My instructor has been a trans guy for 15+ years and said to follow a good interval for the application and do pan drops/filter changes. You should never have a fluid issue.

Check all vacuum hoses for cracks and put a new fuel filter on.
