2G Exterior door handle not opening door

When pulling on the door handle from the exterior the door does not open. Sometimes when I apply pressure and push the door in and then pull the handle it will catch and open the door. I have been told it could be the striker in the door or possibly the linkage inside the door. Just looking to see if anyone has any ideas on what it could be. Thanks and yes the door is unlocked.

I really need to update this since the sound dropped half way through a few years ago and it was taken on a 1.3mp camera phone, but you get the gist of it.
