I got tired of my power locks not working. OEM solenoids cost too much and you have to tear everything in the door apart to replace them.
So I got some aftermarket solenoids that cost $11 a piece. Here is how I installed them.
You can see that I used 5-wire solenoids. This is unecessary. You can use the 2-wire ones. For the 5-wire, use just the blue and green wires. The other wires are for switches, and don't work right when you try to wire them into the stock wiring.
Fortunately, the power wires for the stock solenoids are swapping-polarity and no other relays are needed to make them work. I don't have a picture of the complete wiring, but basically I just plugged the stock harness back in, and cut the power wires, attaching them to the new solenoids. That way, I am still using the switch of the factory solenoid for the security system. I didn't remove any of the linkage so it still works.
To put the door panel back on, you will just need to carve a small bit of the styrofoam off. Besides that, this was very easy, and inexpensive to do.
And yes, I need to grease my window tracks.
