If the input shaft is bent on the transmission, is it possible to just replace the input shaft? Is that something that can be done at home or would it have to be taken in to a transmission specialist?

If you don't have a press and a bearing splitter than it will need to be taken somewhere. The trans has to come apart, and the collar and bearing pressed from the shaft and gears removed than installed on a new shaft. How in the world did you manage to bend the input shaft. IF the shaft is bent than the tob collar would damn near have to be snapped off also.

I have no idea if I even did yet. Its just one unlikely explanation for why my starter was grinding so bad.

I'm replacing the flywheel coming up so I'll take a look at other possible things it could be. I've been over a couple things already but I got a couple other ideas.

The driver side motor mount was off for a while without any support underneath so thats the only way I could think off.

I just want to be prepared in case thats whats up here.

That sucks man, the good news is, you pull off the transmission and take it in, versus taking it to a shop to remove the transmission and then inspect the damage. Save some money.

I can assure you that it isn't a bent input shaft. That isn't even possible first off, second the flywheel is connected to the crank and not the input shaft.
