replace idler pulley help

i have a rattle coming from my timing area assuming its the idler pulley is that an easy replace or a nightmare to get to? the rattle goes away at 2500 or when it boosts but if i set the cruise i hear faintly any helpful info?

First find out for sure whats causing the problem. Then if it is, go ahead and replace the whole timing components.

is it a pain to do that or should i have a shop do it?

With all the info and pictures on this site and VFAQ.com, anybody can do a timing job on a 4g63.

I never have done one before either, after following the writeups I've done no less than 15-20 now.

The timing Belt is doable just follow the Vfaq, but what your describing dosent sound like the idler pulley.

FWIW -- I had a rattle in that area and was afraid it was under the timing cover, but I felt around in the vicinity and found a loose bolt at the A/C belt idler pulley. After tightening it the rattle was gone, but not too long afterwards I started hearing a squeal from the same area. At first I thought it was an A/C belt tension issue, but turned out the idler bearing was shot. Replacing the idler ended the problems. My point being there are other possible causes for noises in that area.

hey guys thanks for all the feedback happy i found this forum i think i will have a shop do it for 375 thats with labor so if they screw up it their fault shaddi know but i love my dsm
