1G Replace Cam Gear Without Removing Timing Belt

My intake cam gear is bent and needs to be replaced. I did check to make sure it was torqued and seated well.
I just put the motor in with a new timing belt, etc and really don’t want to go through all that again.
I’ve read some threads regarding swapping cams without taking the timing belt off. Is there any reason I couldn’t do the same with the cam gear?

I guess you could if you make everything line up in the end. It's not really that much work to take it all off again, though.

Yeah, I know. But I just got the motor back in and started up. That’s when I noticed it.
I’ll give it a try. Worst case, belt falls and I have to take it all off again anyway.
Hopefully I’ll get lucky.

i just swapped out my stock cam gears for a set of AEM adjustables a few weeks back without tearing everything apart, no reason you cant do it, just be careful. One off at a time, make marks, use zip ties/clamps/whatever. You'll be good.

Did it last night. Went pretty smooth with way less swearing than I anticipated.
