I've been working on repainting my black 1g for a few months now and I'm doing the door jams and all. Well I've ran across a problem. I was wondering if the v.i.n decal can be removed so I don't have to tape around it. I can tape it if need be but the paint will be raised up around that area once its unmasked. I just want to make sure this will be ok later on down the road come inspection time.

it still has the one on the dash, but I removed the one from the engine bay.

I've already removed the one in the engine bay and painted that part. I'm not a noob at painting by any means. I'm just wondering if I can remove the decal on the drivers side door jam.

Hell I'm surprised it's still there. Yes you can remove it with no adverse effects. It's just a sticker the couldn't have meant for it to last forever. As long as you have the dash one your fine. Also these cars ahave a real screwy way with vin number placement compaired to other cars. The dash one on other cars is on a plated rivited to another plate thats welded to the firewall. With ig's it's mounted right to the dash so when the dash come out so does then vin plate. Just people remember that for if you want to swap out your dash for a nicer one of your is cracked or messed up some other way.
