Practice makes perfect my friend. . .

What he said. My welds used to look like I hit them with a stick. Depending on the welder (the machine more than the actual person) though, they can look pro. Taught myself at Wasserstrom & Sons Inc. Good times.

Shouldn't take you more than two weeks of patience to get some pro china welds going :p

You guys that make coolant overflow tanks, where do you get the caps from? Anyone make inexpensive caps that are not $20+ each.

I ordered 2 off ebay for $17 shipped each, figure I'll try my hand at welding a cap on. Coolant overflow tanks don't hold any pressure do they?

Did this last night, and it came out better but still not great. The one part that came out really well was me welding in an ackward position. Go figure.

I got my stuff from his ebay store.

Any issues using a steel catch can as long as the galvanized coating is removed on the inside and out I am thinking it should be ok?

Anyone? I need some practice welding round pipe so I bought a 6 foot piece and am cutting it into sections and cutting the tops and welding. As long as there is no coating steel should be fine right?

I stripped off all the coating. Just wondering if steel is ok for a catch can or if there is a downside to it?

Steel will rust after awhile. Galvanize sucks to weld. The fumes are cancerous. I've done a lot of galv welding and it isn't pleasant.
