I have been trying to figure out why my shifter has felt very sloppy. I have the solid bases and also the skateboard bearings on the transmission. I took the shifter base and swapped it with another and the same problem is still occuring. My problem: When you put the car in first gear and then take it out of gear and put in neutral, it will not go back to the middle position of neutral. It is very hard to figure out if i am in first gear or in third gear. It has something to do with the levers on the transmission because i took the linkage off of the transmission. When i was moving the levers by hand, i could tell that it is very sloppy. I have heard that you should remove the levers and grease them and clean them up. I am not sure how to do this, and is this my problem?

Ran into a problem. Went to the dealer today and he said the part is discontinued. He said that 3 dealers on the west coast have them. He said the only problem is that it could take months to get. You know anywhere else i can get one. I also took it off today and see that it is a rectangle shape and it should be a square correct?

I have just built a trans from 3 bad ones i have that shoe is you find that's the REAL proeblem, i actually have a whole rod and stopper and shift actuator i'll sell yuou dirt cheap (take trans apart to install those though)

there's also a 12mm bolt belo0w the shifter on the trans that has a smooth round tip that gets worn and causes badissues like this, ihave a spare one of those too..

examine your parts, or show with pics that they're bad and i'll com,e off some of my beloved "spares" for ya LOL

It's rectangular. Here is a new one: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=111966&d=1280113943. The crucial measurement is the thickness that fits inside the ring of the control shaft (produces the play). To give you something to compare your old one to, a new one is 0.468" thick (the ring slot is 0.475").
