I'd like to know a good way of removing the cam seals for replacement. They seem to be pretty tight in there and the last thing that I want to do is to gouge the head. Will a dental pick work possibly?

Thanks

If you have a seal remover (the kind with the sharp point on it) you can tap it into the center of the cap and gently pry it out.

Pull the VC,

Remove the front cam caps

Pull seal

Install new seal

replace front cam caps

Appreciated. Head is off car and VC is off too so it shouldn't be too bad.

ok thanks, alot of the abbreviations are new to me in this world, I am used to chevy based motors and forums

Any oil or RTV involved with the cam seals? It looks like everyone has a different opinion about this.

Best example is 3 quarters down the page where it shows grease being applied on the inner cam seal along with rtv on the journal portion of the cam caps.

Is that right or is just bare installation ok too?

Thanks

Grease/oil/lube the inner lip, a seal can tear on a dry start up.

Just a dab of non-hardening gasket maker on the cap where it mates to the head casting.

RTV is slick, so if you put it on the OD of the seal, it can pop out.

Thanks again for your wisdom.
