I have been trying to remove an axle from my eclipse 97 gst i have sprayed it with wd 40 for couple of days and nothing have hammered it and nothing I've even smacked it with a sludge hammer since i am replacing the axle with a new one and nothing you guys have any suggestions on how i can remove it?

Heat up the just to the outside of the axle with a torch to expand the opening and pop it out with a 5lb hammer.

Just tried that about 10 minutes ago and nothing it realy seems stuck in there any other ideas?

what I usually do is but a pry bar between the trans and the axle and pry on it as well as have someone pulling on it and it usually comes right out. Try turning it as well, the "C" clip might be caught up...

I had tried that previously out with a buddy when we pulled out the transmission and didn't seem to work out to good I'm gonna try to get it out with the gear puller that is my best shot i have right now.

Dude i have the same problem with both of my axles when i went to do my clutch job. I ended up just being able to take the axle out of the tranny and not the hub making it harder to put the tranny back in. This didnt work for me but might work for you. Thread the axle nut on the end just a tad so that when u smack it with a small 5lb sledge you dont mess up the end of the axle where you thread the nut on. Then heat up where the axle meets the hub. And smack it a few times. Didnt work for me i guess mine as just so ceased. But you could give it a shot. Good luck

Heat up the hub right around the axle spindle for about a minute with a decent sized butane torch (not palm sized). Then start hitting it HARD with a weighted hammer. Also pick up something a little stronger then WD-40 if you can (PB Blaster or Liquid Wrench or something similar [I'm not sure if you can find the listed products in Canada]).

It can be really stubborn but it WILL eventually come out, it's probably rusted in there. Just keep alternating between heating it, spraying it with a penetrating oil and wailing on it. Especially since you're replacing the axle you don't have to worry about messing up the threads on the axle spindle so just keep wailing on it until it loosens up.

Let us know how it turns out. :dsm::talon::laser: ... :thumb:

Hey Ruben, I just bought a 20 ton press, so that may be an option to try, if you get the whole knuckle off. What I've always done, is leave the nut on & smack it good with a sledge hammer (off the car in a vice). On the car you get to much movement with bushings, etc to get a good hit. I find some left over heat (aceytlene torch), which I use to get the nuts off seems to help as well. Also we can get PB Blaster (Canadian Tire, which seems to work better as mentioned)

I went through all this with mine and even broke a hub puller and it still wouldn't come off. If you've tryed solvents, hammers, torches, prayer, a 4' pipe on your breaker bar with you jumping on it, and a regular hub puller, rent this extra heavy duty truck hub puller (make sure you use this exact one) here: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/newbie-forum/235884-need-help.html#post50449790. It was the only thing that worked for me. If it still won't come off you'll have to remove the knuckle and bring the whole thing to a machine shop.

REMEMBER When your beating on it thread that axle nut a little on there or you will mess up the end of the axle and you WILL not get the nut back on.

Good for future notice, but he already said he's replacing the axle.

Okay This is realy getting me pissed off i heated the shit out of it smacked it with a sludge hammer tried a large gear puller and nothing the Son of a ***** is stuck in there any more idea guys this is realy starting to get to me .

Did you remove the axel from the diff first and push aside? You must. Are you using a very heavy duty puller like in post #14? Also, the entire hub assembly must be held very rigid while using the puller or banging on it. So bolt all the arms back on the knuckle to hold it solid. If all else fails remove the entire knuckle and all and bring it to a machine shop to be pressed out. You can also read some of the posts here for ideas (even though it's for an AWD they're still good): http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/new...-wheel-bearing-hub-removal.html#post151740510

Yes i bought the puller like on #14 but u might be right control arms are all off because i pulled out the transmission and does move a little when i try to apply pressure on it im gona try air hammering it out hope that works.

If not ill bolt everything back up and let you guys know how it whent.

Help of the Lord and a Hell of a struggle....your using a 5# hammer?? Kinda small don't you think?

between gear pullers and a 10 lb hammer whacks mine almost fell right out. porta power with a hub attachment works good if you can find one.

I use a balljoint fork and the handle off of my jack. i get a good bite between the york and use the handle to get leverage. it never fails me
