Well I started my new project about two weeks ago. I am relocating the fuse/relay box from the engine bay to the glove box. Once I got the box and harness out I disected the entire harness, making three smaller harnesses: headlamps, turn signals and side markers and then the box with the rest of the wiring that goes into the cabin. After taking the dash out I removed the interior harness I removed all unused wiring from it(radio, airbag, ect.). I will also be wiring the fog lamp switch relay for the power switch for my power invertor for the laptop. I have all the exterior wiring routed minus the fans. I am about ready to reinstall the interior harness which now has the gauge wiring, boost controller and turbo timer wiring incorperated into it. Next I have to get the relay box mounted in the glove box then I can start routing the wiring for that with the interior harness. Once everything is connecter and tested that it is working everything will be covered with convoluted tubing and electrical taped like the factory harness, I want everything to appear as if its stock. I will also be modifing the engine harness once I get the engine dropped in, removing all unused connectors and rerouting it to be the least visable as possible. Also the alternator will be relocated and I will mount a oddessy or braile battery on the subframe next to the firewall. I can't say I came up with the idea by myself as ForceFedRed had done something very similar a few years ago, but he is the only other that I know of that has ever done this. Here are some pics of the project and the progress I made.

Man I just pulled all that harness and more out of a wrecked 1G and that was a pain in the @ss I could only imagine how much fun this was. :thumb:

As hard as it may be to belive I have acctually enjoyed working on this so far. I guess after working as a tech for a couple years I got sick of un-bolting and bolting on engine parts. Its a nice change of pace. Also I haven't been in any rush to complete this. Just putting a couple hours in here and there.

That's really cool man, props for taking on this project. Since you're already elbows deep in the project, what I would do at this point is put together a completely custom breaker box instead of using the stock blade- and element-type fuse box, and then mount it nice and cleanly in the glovebox like you are planning. Maybe use some carbon fiber plate to trim it out, or fiberglass if that's your type of thing.

edit: something like this, except with labeled breakers instead of gauges.

Well I sat down for a couple hours today and made some progress. I got all the wiring done from the back of the fuse box. I fabbed up a bracket to mount the fuse box in the glove box. After drilling a couple holes and putting some bolts in the fuse box is solidly mounted. I still have a couple things to wire into the interior harness then that can go back in. Then I will begin routing and connecting the wiring from the fuse box.

Don't really see the point in that other than adding expense and more headaches. I don't have any issues with the stock box. Don't really plan on too many people seeing it, I wanted the box out of site which is why I moved it. Plus, I can remove a fuse, such as the fuel pump, lock the glove box and you have a decent anti theft system. Who would think to look in the glove for a fuse box?

This is totally going to be my new project after I get all the goodies I have laying around installed and the battery relocated. I might stick them in the rx-7 bins I have in the back though.

If you are installing any electrical componets I would suggest doing it when you do the relocation. Otherwise you'll probably find yourself redoing everything. You would be the first to do it to a 1g that I am aware of. Forcefedred is the only other person I know that has ever done this. It will keep you occupied for a while thats for sure.

Thanks for the input. I will take it into consideration. It seems you pulled every plug to extend the harness, I am going to attempt to lengthen the wires without pulling the plugs and instead extend the wires from the fuse box side only. Should be fun, hopefully my bay won't look as cluttered then.

Any more progress or updates on this. I am curious to see how it is going. If you have been able to still work on it, you should have made pretty good progress. Updated pics as well as a must as well. :thumb:

Lately I have been putting in overtime at work, between that and the holidays coming up I haven't had much time or ambition to work on it. Everything is ready to be reinstalled in the car. I need to pick up a couple more gauges before I can complete the interior. I have a long weekend on New Years so I will probably get some stuff accomplished then. The trans and shortblock are ready to be installed, then I can start on working on the engine harness. In a couple weeks I should be able to post up some pics that will show good progress.

Well, this is a project that won't be completed. I parted out the 2g, nothing to do with this project. I found a nice 1g and decided to go that route. I had the harness all made up and still have it so if(most likely when) I get another 2g I will have it all set to install. Its kind of sad to see a car so clean get parted, but I am sure I made more parting it than I would have gotten selling the rolling chassis. RIP 99 GST.

OMG OMG Well if its not too much to ask, can you give me tips on doing this myself or a basic wiring diagram route, I was thinking on buying a fusebox with some feet of wires on it in a junk yard and position it on the globe box first, then send the wires to the engine bay and weld the wires to the end of the other wires of the original fuse box location. then remove the stock fuse box. I am lookinng foward on doing this and yes i will have time to do it.

sorry about my grammar, english is my second lenguage

Well for engish being your second language you do a pretty good job, better than alot of people that only speak english.:D As far as tips go, getting a second fuse box would help alot. Allow alot of time for the project, its not something I would want to try to rush through. I would work on it a couple hours at a time then leave it alone for a week then do some more work. Wiring diagrams are a big help. As long as you have confidence you can get it done you should be OK, if you have any doubts, don't do it as you'll probably regret getting into it. Once you start your pretty much commited to it. I know Forcefedred has completed this a while back, he may be able to give you some more tips.

It looks, if I am not mistaken that your car had a DVDT fab. intercooler kit on it. If you have not already parted that out are you interested in possibly selling one of the best intercoolers ever made for a 2g?

How ironic that you ask that. I just posted it for sale on the dsmlink forums. I was going to try to get it on my 1g but it doesn't look like that is going to happen. Its the core only, if you can't make your own piping I'm sure Albert can hook you up.

I would have to agree that this is the sickest FMIC for the 2g/Evo.:thumb:

maybe you will want to kill me when ill ask you this...
but can you sell me that harness now that you have a 1G? ;)

Yeah please let me know cus i went to a junk yard saturday and they asked $250 for the whole harness. I am a big fan of race car engine bays but also want a sleeper look of the outside of the car and i really want this harness

how much can it cost new in a dealer?
