dont have much money but want to mod my talon, anything easy or cheap i can do till i get some money?:hmm: I got a 1991 Eagle Talon TSi awd

On a 1g u can take the recirc valve off the blow off valve and then cap off the intake pipe. Then you got your self a atmospheric BOV :thumb:

I'll bite

Firstly, What is a "recirc valve"? I would ask if you mean the Blow-Off Valve however you clearly stated that "u can take the recirc valve off the blow off valve."

Secondly, where did you obtain the information that you can vent the stock setup to the atmosphere safely? I know you did not state in your post that it can be done safely, but here we promote doing things correctly, not half-assed.

Thirdly, are you aware of the side effects of doing this? That's metered air that is not being recirculated back into the system, thus, the ECU assumes that it is still there and cannot compensate for the loss of air in the system. This causes a Rich condition when the accelerator is released and the BOV is allowed to open to allow pressure in the charge system to 'vent'. That air never makes it to the combustion chambers. Fuel is not reduced as the ECU does not know this air has been lost, thus you obtain a rich mixture which can lead to stalling, fouling plugs, stumbling, stuttering, and if bad enough, 02 sensors failing prematurely.

Finally, please, don't go out of your way to offer poor advice whether it be incomplete good advice or simply there to be sarcastic. This individual has a legitimate question in regards to learning what he can do to modify his vehicle, though likely blind for not having seen the tech posts on the first page initially. The last thing needed is poor advice that will only lead to the failure and crippling of yet another DSM.

Thank you for your input, however, you should pick up a book and start researching common knowledge.

i want a atmospheric BOV but i dont want those problmes

This is what i followed to do all the free mods first. Price is just tools and JB weld. If you have a little cash, First step should always be timing belt/fluid change/haynes manual. I even removed my fuel tank to check for all the trash and dirt from 10 years of fueling so it'll save a fuel filter. No point in having nice turbos and cams when a belt's going to break next week and trash the engine.

yea that happned to my mom bf when he had it(he handed it down to me) the belf snapped on the highway and bye bye moter, so he got a junked yard motor and there been about 20k on it since, idk if they changed the belts on it tho, i just got the ignition coils changed, new plugs and wires, oil change(penzoil full syntho) and my car right now is in the shop getting the tranny worked on(computering went out) But after i pay for that im going to be flat broke. I also need a bumper LOL. I wanted to throw on a exhaust, the guy at autozone told me since mine is a 91 i dont have to worry about emissions, but idk about that?????? i dont want to mod it illegal for emissions then i have to get a test. The only other problem i have it a ticking, but that happens every once in a while for a bit then stops, others told me my oil is circulating right? I am going to get that fixed but not right away cause of money issues, so do i really have to worry about any thing? sorry so many questions guys but i really am a newbe, i had my DSM for only a few weeks now i got allot to learn

Sounds like you're headed down the correct path, but be sure to go ahead and do a complete timing job on that engine that is in the vehicle, especially if it came out of a junk yard. There's no telling how long it's been allowed to sit there and decay over time.

Also, I want to hit on your 'ticking' noise. Every stock 4G63 I've encountered has developed Lifter Tick. It can range from being very mild and unnoticeable to very loud and irritating. This will not damage your car, but it will certainly get on your nerves. Revised 3G lifters are the way to go, for sure.

ok the ticking does not bother me and i was planning on getting the belt fixed when more money comes my way, are the timing belts easy to do on these or should a shop do it, i dont have that much mech experience other than highschool auto mech, and that really didnt teach me much. Other then the tick and the timing belt the engine is good. O and i have a problem in idel it revs up then drops and does the same, but not all the time, we use to think it was the o2 sensor but we got that changed and the problem still exsists. any other reason??
Also this summer when i work full time and my basic repairs are done i wanted to add a bigger turbo, i was thinking a 20? would that be to much for a DD? i dont really dont want anything higher then that im not a drag racer LOL i just want to show up these v-tec nutheads in my area, and some of them are pretty modded

You shouldn't be looking towards 'modding' anything until you learn the basics of that vehicle. Otherwise you're either going to blow it sky high or you're just going to do it incorrectly and lose power.

A timing belt job is pretty simple, but can be nerve racking the first time you do it. It you mess up, say bye bye to your valves. I'll give you another link where you can learn how to do some of the more basic things like.

After maintenance. . .

Intake properly open to cool ambient air, yes. That would be my first very cheap mod based on my various ventures. I also suggest a good ol' logger, a mbc, and boost gauge. Learn how the logger works and what to look for when logging. After that, observe and respect its output as you up the boost slowly to a comfortable maximum.

Take some advice from the people who know what they are talking about, not these morons that think "bolt on's" are god. Make sure your engine is healthy before you start looking for more power. As someone linked above me, do a timing belt and water pump. Also, clean everything out, most stock cars have oil buildup in the intercooler piping and the intercooler itself. Maintain your car, it is the best way to have a reliable car and save money.

Upgrading can be a daunting task so just make sure you are aware that your vehicle is over 20 years old and things will not go as planned most of the time.

Investing in some guages sooner than later will save you many hardships later on. Stocking up on some useful tools/supplies wouldn't hurt either. :sneaky:

Things to buy list: "easy-out" set, tap and die set, about thirty 10mm socket and wrenches, a few cans of PB blaster, a mini fridge for the gargage, and plenty of cold beverages to stock said mini fridge :D

LOL, yea after my car is out for its tranny i was going to throw on a new belt, and after reading some modding steps i was going to clean out my intercooler to, and throw a k&N intake for autozone, like 50$. But i also need to get body work done, i have no front bumper and two rust spots i want to get ride of before they go through. The side view mirrors are damaged but i got new ones and put some fresh black paint on them,i also am going to take my wing of to repaint that to. The bull horn idea sounds good but i want a real atmo BOV i love how they sound(but i know that stalls the car), my girlfriend makes fun of the one i have now cause it doesn't whistle like those but o well she doesn't no LOL

If you're truly that adamant about an Atmospheric BOV then get a GM MAF and a MAFT (Maf Translator). This will allow you to vent your BOV without any negative repercussions, provides a tuning ability, flows better than you stock MAF, and allows you to clean up your engine bay by being able to place it after your turbo (IE on the actual charge piping near the Throttle Body) and get rid of the stock intake snorkel. This setup can be had for around $150ish, give or take.
