Rebuilt 14B, Too hard to spin?

I just had a quick newb question, because EVERY turbo I have ever dealt with has been used ROFL

I just got the rebuilt 14b, it never has been run, just assembled. When you turn the wheel with your hand, is it supposed to keep spinning under it's own momentum? Or is it ok that it stops rather quickly? It spins smoothly, just doesn't keep going like the other bigger turbo's. I thought maybe the bushing type bearing turbo's like the 14b don't spin that fast if you do it by hand, or that because it hasn't been run at all, it just made me nervous at first. :D
 
Two points:

1) If it's never been run, it probably just has assembly lube or grease on the bearing, which is not nearly as light as oil and will cause resistance and drag when you're turning it by hand. Once its had oil run through, it, it should be slightly easier to turn.

2) Larger turbos' rotating assemblies have more inertia, and therefore, will remain in motion longer than smaller assemblies, given the same amount of drag (conservation of momentum).

As long as it's not dragging severely or rubbing on the housing(s), you're good.

all turbo bearings are that type unless they are ball bearing. they work with a film of oil between the bearing and the shaft. dont forget to prime the turbo.. it wouldnt hurt to pour oil in it when off the car and spin it a bit to get some oil in there.. :rocks:
