ok so i recently decided to do a little checking and maintainance and such.... plugs, wires, checking for loose bolts/ connections... you know basic things you should do when you buy a used car... i have an aftermarket bov and it has an adjustment screw and a locking nut... i think i may have tigtened the nut too tight (was really loose) and may have turned the screw inward.... after all of this my boost was kind of unstable and it would be at like 5 psi at cruising rpm (2500)

could this cause bad gas mileage?

i softened the bov and everything seems to be in order now... is this logical? im new to turbos can anyone explain why this works like this? or correct me if im wrong

is there a special procedure maybe for setting up a manual boost control and bov? or is it just kind of gueesse and test?

thanks

ok... sorry for all the annoying questions lately... i feel like im the kid who got a new xbox and doesnt really know how to use it LOL... im just trying to get as much info as i can because ive never dealt with turbo cars before... so just to be clear how should i adjust it? like ### am i looking for? whats too hard whats too soft?

thanks

You have to search for that sweet spot! It all depends. You need to do a boost leak test for sure.

should i be able to hear it on an aoutomatic car? it stil whines a little but it always has.... and when i get up to full boost and let off the gas it makes a fluttering sound

yes you should still be able to hear it. Anytime you release the gas, you should hear it. Well that assumes after building some boost or pressure. It it is fluttering and you are giving it wide open throttle, then it is too tight. Try loosening it out all the way and tightening it back up, little by little.

its not supposed to flutter when the gas is let off? i mean everything seems to be fine when uder boost but when i let off the gas it sounds kind of like psh shs shs shs shh.... is that about right? what sound should it make when i close the throttle back up?

Please be sure that your modification list on your profile is current/up to date. I am not saying that it is or is not. It helps with the genereal diagnosis of situations like so and many others.

From the information that I acquired from your modification list you are running a Punishment Racing blow off valve. I am just going to let you know this right off of the bat, every single blow off valve out there has a different sound to it. Your blow off valve will sound different than others. It is up to you to adjust it correctly and find the "sweet spot''. Do a little research on the different sounds that is made, model specific, to the blow off valve you are using.

A blow off valve will flutter if it is not under enough pressure (boost) to release to its fullest potential. Think of a whistle, with the wooden ball in it. If you half-way blow into it, it will make a fluttery sound, versus full out blowing into it. Some of it has to do with the blow off valve of your choice. I ran a Greddy RS and it always made a flutter sound. Never could adjust out of it. I also have seen first hand someone by a Turbonetics blow off valve and it makes a somewhat flutter noise. But it is indeed the sound of the blow off valve itself.

ok i just looked on youtube for a bunch of different sounds and mine sounds like some of them... couldnt find a punishment specific one but im pretty sure its all set now... just one last thing... and cruising 60 mph a member on here said i should see about 15 hg (vaccum) on my boost gauge.... is thhis correct?

and yes my stuff is up to date

thanks all you have been a great help

Sounds about right to me. You can't 100% judge it thought, for your car is constantly flunctuating RPM's to maintain a speed, even at cruise.
