Hello all. I just picked up my third DSM and this one has some rod bearings gone bad going on! I already pulled the pan before buying it and the bearings are scored up pretty bad. Though, I got it for a really good price considering all, and now it is time to rebuild it!
The car has a recently rebuilt head on it, so I will essentially be sticking to the bottom end. My goal for the car is a 400hp street car that will occasionally be taken to the track. I know many will say to swap a six bolt, but I would rather just rebuild the seven bolt and rock with it. I have not ever done a full rebuild before, so I am still debating on having a shop just do it for me... The last TSI I had put on a new head gasket and all the accompanying parts, but never needed to rebuild it.
My main questions are whether or not I should go for stock rods/pistons or if forged are going to be necessary. I don't plan on every going much further than 400hp as that will already be pushing it on the FWD traction.. And should I also go with a high flow Meiling oil pump as opposed to OEM?
