I'm rebuilding a AWD GSX that came missing a few peaces.

I needed the rear CV axle too wheel hub bolts for a 3btLSD and happened to be at home depot. I picked up six 3/8" grade 8 bolts with lock washers, and wonder if this will work fine or will I need the real thing from Mitsu?

The threads running the entire length of the bolt; I could see them maybe damaging the bolt holes over time... maybe???

Any thoughts?

Are these bolts a weak point; prone to breakage?

The three bolt axles are weak to begin with. If you add in some potential "slop" in the axle to flange connection by using the wrong size/type bolts, well, I hope you enjoy replacing axles.

Call up JNZ Tuning for new replacements or Mitsubishi Graveyard for a used set, will be one less thing to worry about ;) :dsm:

Torque them correctly and you'll be fine. It's the clamp load that's critical.

I'm glad that worked out for you.

Bitter experience notes that True Value Grade 8 hardware is marginally stronger than goat cheese - just so y'all know. Wouldn't want your car trailer to break loose or anything...
