I have researched many times how to tell if a rear end is an LSD by looking at it out of the car but have not found a clear answer. I was always told if you look thru the axle holes that on an LSD Rear Diff, there will be a shaft sticking up vertically almost blocking your site through the hole. Is that correct or am I backwards on that?

Only problem with that is rear diffs can be swapped.

Dammit..There are always flaws to logic...

I actually asked Brian a while back..Id we could have a tech article written up about how to tell 3 bolt, 4 bolt, and lsd rear ends..

These are rear ends from cars that have been crushed or I never had the car at all. Also, the LSD rear stickers are missing.

Hey Iheartmyhonda...if you look through the axle holes of those rear diffs, is there a shaft sticking veritcally up or do they go all the way through?

Spin one hub. If the opposite side hub turns the same direction, it's limited slip. If it turns the other direction, it's not limited slip.

I have a brand new diff I picked up and it only had the BFH on the sticker but I took the rear cover off and it looks like its lsd. Looks almost identical to the pic that abaum565 posted. http://api.viglink.com/api/click?fo...hings_09.JPG&jsonp=vglnk_jsonp_13267455081882
Maybe some added info would be ways to know what the codes mean if anybody knows them.
I have seen BFH (2g manual) and JFH (2g auto)? Is this right?
