How to tell the difference between 95/96 and 97-99 Rear diffs

I cannot seem to find a topic on how to tell differences, so apologies if there is already one. I found out how to tell differences in transfer cases and transmissions, but not rear ends.


Long story short, I am going to buy a shell with an LSD rear end(main reason I am buying it). The car is a 95, but the owner says it has an lsd. I currently have a 95 car with transfer case, and shep stage 3 trans and would like to keep the transmission. Is there a way that I could tell what year the rear diff is?

The only differences between 2g rear diffs are from M/T - A/T. Meaning, if you have a 95 Rear LSD, you can get a Rear LSD diff from 95 - 99. Same goes with a Non-LSD Rear Diff.

Where the difference comes into play is with the Transmission//Transfer-Case being year specific. There should be a stamp on there. It'll say like BFH..

So really, year doesn't matter as long as it's LSD and for a 2g.

Just make sure its the 3.545 manual trans ratio on the diff. Should be a sticker on there that says it.
