So the question is, how mandatory is a rear diff cover for a 1g? I started looking around for some information and its quite clear the 2g guys are having some trouble in this area but what about 1gs? I didn't see any helpful info with answers, I would like to know so I don't spend $300 on a cover if I don't need one and would hate to find out I need it the hard way.

I don't understand your question. What do you mean "if its needed" of course its needed otherwise the gear oil will come out or not even be able to service it for that matter hahaha.

This is why I think you should re phrase what you are asking because it doesn't make sense what you are trying to say. :aha:

When it comes to needing a supported diff cover (which I assume your asking about) Depends on how much power and how hard you plan on launching your car. Youll run into T-case issues before you start running into issues with the rear diff. But the rear diff will start pushing the ring gear not far after that.

If your cars heavy, plan on running slicks, and launching hard its a wise investment.

Yes sorry I thought it was understood that an aftermarket rear diff cover was in question. By looking at my out dated avatar, If I was questioning need of a rear diff cover or not needing one, then I should sell my "investment" before someone gets hurt. Mild weight reduction, and Pre-loaded launches, none of that side stepped clutch shit haha. Yea because its pretty hard to find an aftermarket diff cover for the 1g.

Andrew at frontline fabrication makes a great diff cover. Its very strong. It's worth what he's asking since at some levels it serves a huge purpose and keeping the diff together.
