Rear diff bad or soemthing else? unsure

I picked up a 1993 eclipse gsx and noticed when in nuetral the car difficult to push as if it were binding. The car has been sitting for 2-3 years at some guys drive way. Just for more info it cannot be the transfer case because it didn't have one when i bought it and I;am the one who installed the new one. any ideas? the car has resistance to it. maybe locked rear brakes from sitting so long? bearings, diff?
 
Don't do that you will ruin the Viscus clutch. From my experience AWDs are hard to push but what you are describing you may have a problem. Was the car Driven with the t/case out of the car?
 
Put it in netural jack up each tire and see if it free spins.

agreed, jack the car up and spin each wheel and see if any of them bind,you do not have hulklike power required to ruin the vc(viscous coupling) by hand,that only applies to towing awd cars improperly.

From my experience AWDs are hard to push but what you are describing you may have a problem.

Turning the wheels isn't going to hurt the VC. Doing it a high enough speed to heat up the silicone fluid can but your not going to do that by hand.

My car rolls quite easily, as it should. It didn't for a while and that was my clue that the u-joints in the driveshaft had gone bad. On inspection they were stiff and crunchy but quiet. Pretty much anything that rotates in neutral can cause excess friction and make it difficult to roll the car.

I can move mine around in the garage with one hand, if you can't you need to investigate why.

Do you hear anything grinding when you move it?
 
it was moved without the tcase on and the owner before me had the driveshaft hanging with some rope or soemthing stupid. do you think the rear brakes may have just freezed up or has anyone experienced this with ebrake probably being worn. I will check the car in about 2 hrs with the jack. thanks for the inputs.

If the car has been sitting for more than a few days, much less a few years, the rotors tend to rust. You should have no problem identifying if this is happening because you will hear the rotors and pads grinding or the tires dragging when you try to push it.
 
Check and make sure EBrake is not stuck on. Check for corrosion between rotar and pads and make sure calibers are not seized. Im willing to bet it was parked for a while with the Ebrake on and the calibers are seized;

This sounds like you may have hit it on the bullseye ; will keep ya posted when I get to them.Have to remove the pain in the tranny again due to the flywheel teeth being worn.
