post up a vid, you can also take your top cam cover off and see if that stops it, i have no such rattling in that area on my 2g.

When was the last time the belt was changed? Spin the engine over my hand and check the belt for cracks.

literally just had a new timing belt put on yesterday because of the noise.. its a rattling noise let me post the video.

was the noise there before you put the timing belt on? guessing yes because thats why you changed it? did anything look out of balance when you were changing it? all timing marks lined up etc?

all the timing marks lined up perfectly balance shaft was correct everything was correct checked it like 6 times
i have no idea what it is and its bothering me because i cant upload the video with my phone

Did you replace all the timing parts or just the belt? Your idler and tension pulley bearings might be bad. Could you upload a pic with the timing cover off?

replaced my timing belt balance shaft belt 2 tensioner pulleys and my idler and my water pump..

Sounds like the timing is off and you are clatering valves....recheck timing......[/QU

if it was making that noise before and my timing was correct why would that be it now?

well i guess i missed where you said it made the noise before but that being said, i work at a kia dealership and kia still uses a very similar motor, just a few days ago one of the new tech's threw a timing belt on, didnt check it close...made the same noise. i went back helped him time it correctly, and the car made the same noise. Moral of the story one the car was reved with the timing way off the damage had been done to the valve train. Im not saying this is what is wrong with your car...just sounds very familiar.

Having a similar issue myself. very strange as the noise only comes while crusing and accel at about 2500 rpm. Like a loud rattle, almost think my timing belt might be hitting the cover some times. Sound doesn't happen every time. Will be watching your thread for an out come. I would look further into it myself but this car is not a dd, but a toy that I saved from the crusher.

How did you set the tension on the belt. If the tension is too loose or the tensioner is bad than it will make a knocking noise.

IF the valves were hitting the pistons than they would be bent and the car wouldn't run any more.

I see no mention of replacing the actual hydraulic tensioner assy :( and that is known to cause these kind of noises. That should be replaced with every tb change.;)
after i rebuilt my head I started it up w/o the timing cover on it because I had that noise before I rebuilt it and after revving it up a bit i could see it was just bouncing up and down making that noise but mine was around 3k rpm and after 3k it stopped but after I got a new one there was no noise. Just my .02 also I've heard its recommended to get OEM so thats what I did and its been fine so far
