Radiator hoses options

SS coolant hoses are just a rubber hose inside stainless mesh and really don't do anything. The rubber hose inside can cut, crack, or break and coolant will still come out of the SS hose around it. SS radiator hose kits are sold at Autozone and don't do anything but "dress up" your engine bay, if thats what you want to call it. Good upgrades from the stock radiator hoses for DSM's are Samco radiator hoses because they are a stronger more durable hose. And if you want to "dress up" your engine bay they even sell them in different colors...

Doing a real SS upgrade (not the slide-on covers from your local auto store) requires welding AN fittings on your thermostat housing, water pipe, and radiator. I am not sure of the size of these fittings though (-16 or -20 AN maybe?).

Yeah i was thinking of doing the real SS hose not the auto zone sleeve type. I could weld anything for them to fit so I will let you guys know if it works out and I can post pictures of them too. It might be a week or two till I can get everything for the setup so keep an eye out and I'll let you guys know. Thanks!

Careful with silicone hoses on a daily driven car. Silicone radiator hoses like Samco are meant more for racing where they see higher temperatures and constant attention. Silicone hoses are more porous than the OEM rubber hoses, silicone hoses have a higher permeation rate than rubber.

Gates Rubber put out an article about this.
http://www.carquest.com/common/downloads/partsTechBeltscq-0815.pdf

Quotes from the article if you don't want to read:
"Most silicone hoses have minimal tendency to bond to stems, possibly explaining their reputation for leaking at the coupling."

"Silicone also is prone to water permeation, an invisible phenomenon in which water molecules from coolant migrate through the hose wall. Since most maintenance garages top-off their radiators with 100-percent antifreeze of a 50:50 premix, the coolant balance is upset and the coolant loses its thermal efficiency."

Napa has a nice set for our cars. It uses Aramid fibers, like in bullet proof vest.
They don't swell like the stock rubber ones.

Just don't use the heat shrink clamps that comes with it they are a real pain to get off.

Have in red and blue.

yah it would be nice to get a part number
dsm stock hoses arnt lasting very long on my evo

Well if you decide to go with rubber, get one that's spring loaded that way it will never collapse.

I replaced mine with Gates racing radiator hoses. I prefer these than the silicone ones due to the issues mentioned above. Click or copy and paste the link below.

+1 for Gates Racing. I've always had great luck with both their belts and hoses. Here's a couple links to the radiator hoses from one of our supporting vendors:

I am running s.s. hoses on my evo III. they are the same ones I run in my hot rod. they are sold with 4 ends and the hose is 48in long and you just cut them to the right size and put the ends on them.
