Well, i dont have the heat sheilds over the exhaust manifold anymore since i have a new one on and i noticed it got way hotter under the hood and even the hood is pretty hot when you touch it, but today my hood was popped and my friend noticed my driver side fan is like completely melted. there is no difference in temperature on the gauge it sits right in the middle where it normally does and it dosent overheat at all, could it be a problem?

The drivers side fan only operates when the A/C is on ... so there shouldnt be a problem unless you wanna use the A/C then you should get a new fan

the reason your fan melted is because the heat from the turbo melted it, please put the heat sheild back on, tha is why it is there, to protect the plastic and under hood temps

That doesn't explain why my brothers fans in his GS-T are fine. He doesn't have his heat shield on.

Jeff, check to see if there are any exhaust leaks at the manifold to turbo flange, or downpipe, or even the head to manifold flange. Also, if you sit at idle for long periods of time, that can cause heat to build up in the engine bay, since you aren't moving and the heat just rises from there.

You more than likely have an exhaust leak either at the DP flange, O2 Housing to Turbine Housing, or even the Ex Man to the Turbine Housing.
My driverside fan blade is melted, and I had a monster leak at the Ex Man to Turbine housing, the worst kind of exhaust leak.
You can take a length of 1/4" vacuum line hold one end to your ear, and while the car is idling, hold the other end near the gaskets of the flanges that I mentioned.
You should be able to hear it.

Haha, I'm sorry but I laughed out loud when I read the title of this thread. I know that the heat shields don't look very cool but they do serve a purpose. If you want a better looking one they do sell polished ones or you could get your's painted with high temp paint. If you have a tubular manifold then I would strongly recomend heat wrap for at least the exhaust manifold. High underhood temps are not good :notgood: and the lower you can keep them the better off you'll be, 'er your car will be.

I just put the stock one back on, it doesnt really bother me how it looks under the hood, if i ever want to change it i'll just get some high temp paint and do that, i couldnt see spending $$ on something i already have that works just as good
