I was sitting in the bank drive through and I smell a burnt electrical smell so I pop the hood and it turns out I melted my a/c fan. Question is can I use 2 of the engine side fans since I got one laying around or does it need to be the actual a/c fan. Thanks.

I have taken both mine off and replaced them, and just run 2 aftermarket fans,
you can run two of the other fans, I think it will be fine, the AC fan probably just comes on at a diferent time due to the AC, but this would not be in the fan itself, but rather a sensor on the motor. you should be fine doing what you said, altho you may have to lenghten or shorten some wires, make sure the conectors are the same.
someone please correct me if I am wrong.

i take it your heet shields are missing ? the main fan is even thicker then the a/c fan and will make it alot closer to the turbo/manifold i would guess it will melt even faster.
Odds are you will be fine to run only 1 fan.

But yes, you should be able to use 2 main fans instead on 1 a/c fan.

I wouldn't suggest only running one fan if you have a FMIC. My car would overheat in a hurry with only the passenger side fan. I melted 2 AC fans back in the day, replacing my lower heatshield cured it. Ive been running a SPAL 12" for over a year with no problems.

I'm running an exhuast manifold heat shield but it didn't have a lower heat shield on it when I bought it.
