Quitters- soon ghosts to us (selling/sold my DSM)

Well I have decided to go back to college full time. This means Im going to have less money beause I will not be able to work as much, which means I have to get rid of my DSM. I would love to keep it but I just dont think I can afford the upkeep, and the gas, for a turbo car. There was a time when I hated my car because it aways seemed to have some stupid little problem, but the closer I get to selling it the more I wish I could keep it. I have put more time and money into this car then I have into anyother car. I hope that once I am done with college I will be able to get another DSM and build it the way I wanted to build this one. Well I guess its time for me to find a good Honda forum, since that will be what I am going to be getting. Well bye for now

You dumb schmuck. Just stop modding it while you're in college. If you go buy a Honda you'll just be into the same money pit mods all over again. Trust me, i just talked myself out of selling my S&M... uh DSM...

You won't be saving any money by selling a car you've already fixed most of the problems in.

Or sell it and quit whining. :beatentodeath:

Selling a car just to buy a used car is dumb. You will have a car that you know nothing about and will be stuck troubleshooting it.

Your DSM had been your car for a while. You know how it works and the little problems that it has. Keep it and stop modding it.

If you're buying new, you got 5 years till the warranty expires and the headaches begin.

If you are complaining about gas, there is really nothing you can do but buy a hybrid. A Honda might save you some mileage since it has no turbo and does not require premium, but I dont think you'll be happy with one (except if it were an S2000 or any Acura).

Turn down your boost and stop modding. If you want, bring it back to stock and sell your mods. That's extra cash in your pocket for gas.

I have to agree with these guys. Turn the boost down and drive conservativly and it shouldn't be 'too' bad on gas. You usually end up losing money by selling a car, and buying something slower will just piss you off.

I know im not going to be happy with the Honda but its more about being able to get help from my parents if I sell the car. My parents want me to sell the car and get something newer. If I listen to them and something goes wrong with the car I bought, I can play the "You told me to get this car" card and I think they will help me fix the car. If something goes wrong with the DSM they will play the "See we told you to sell the car card" and then I have to hear their shit untill the car is fixed. In the end I know my parents are going to be more willing to help me with money if I sell the car then if I keep it.

yea, just do what i'm doing keeping the car till i'm done with college, then keep the car and build it up and get another daily driver.

This is my plan as well. I went through a time when I thought I would profit from selling my car... I wouldn't have.

My main problem is that when something breaks, I can't help but put something better in.

But still, I think it would be more cost effective to keep your current car. If you layout a financial plan, or bring some valid points to your parents about your financial situation, I am sure that they would be more willing to help out. :thumb:

Stop being a sissy. I'm 20 years old and I go to school fulltime and work full time. I have 1 daily driver (1g GS) and 2 turbo DSMs (FWD and AWD, 2g). They're not that costly to maintain as long as you don't beat the piss out of it.

DSM FTW. :rocks: Keep it!

For what it's worth, I'm also a full time college student and I just got married. If you want to talk about being broke live in my shoes for a week. Just stop modding and don't even worry about turning the boost down.

Have you looked at gas mileage in other AWD cars like Subarus? It sucks compared to a well tuned DSM.

If you buy a 4-6k car you'll spend tons fixing it and making it reliable just like you are doing with your DSM. If you pick up a car payment it will more than cover the cost of the repairs or extra gas. Tell that one to your parents.

Ok so im out of the dsm game i got upset at guessing all the problems that the previous owner left me with. Didnt want to sink any more money into it. sooo this weekend i got my car all cleaned up fix most of the cheap problems and traded the car in. What i got was a 06 Cobalt ss/supercharged. now stock the car kicks ass. ive ridden in a couple of stock gst/gsx and i didnt realize how much faster stock this car was. what the car has stock is a full race suspension, LSD, supercharger, and recaro racing seats. i already have my stage 2 pully on the way from chevy. its no stock srt4. I read alot of the comments and past post about the cobalt ss and i dont think alot of them have ridden in a cobalt ss/sc.probably one of the best mods you can do is a co2 sprayer.

Damn. I remember originally replying in this thread a long while back. I guess it is the "I'm out of the game" thread!

Between my brother and I, we had something like 7 DSM's. We're both out of the DSM scene now, and we're both in the Honda scene. I've got an '01 GSR which I love (good gas mileage, low maintaintence) and he's getting a civic. I never get the modding bug, because it's pointless. Would I like to get back into the DSM scene? maybe. There seems to be no sense to me in dropping tons of cash to keep a 15-16 yr old car running, you know?

Ah well, Evolutions are getting cheap these days. If I get one am I still considered cool because I have a 4g63?

well I hate the fact that its me making this goodbye thread but, its time I have to go for a while. As of 11am tomorrow I no longer have my car. Its really killing me to let go of it but I need to. These stupid mopar-muts have been apart of my life now for so long I cant begin to think whats its going to be like tommorw. This will be the 4th one I have owned. I just really hope that The kid that is buying it will care for the car and not ruin it. I know I havent been around for a while but DSMtuners has been such a huge part of my life for some time now. I sure have meet some great friends from this site that i still will see on a regular basis. Im going to sale my car and my 06 CBR600rr to make room for a e46 BMW then a ring and a house if you get my drift. Seems like im growing up to fast but having a loud fast car is all I cared about for years but I guess priorities change. I know that probly sounds crazy to you guys but you'll understand in a few years I think. Im sure Ill stop by every now and again. heres some pics of my car before she goes..

I don't think you're crazy, makes perfect sense to me. I've gone back and forth a couple times a week for the past 3 years debating whether to keep or sell it. The thing is it's paid for and I'm too poor for a car payment, so....

I can relate. I too will be selling my GST soon but I won't be leaving the DSM world because I have a GSX shell at home. Basicly the money I get from the GST will go onto the GSX. But I know I too will be sad and depress when I sell my GST, is a part of you almost like your own child. But you are moving on to bigger and better things and maybe in the future you will come back, who knows. Best of luck to you and your future wife.

Times change and if selling your car is what you have to do then you have to do it. but you'll be back. they always come back.

Whatever you do from now on, make sure it's a smart move :)
Unlike yours, my DSM was totaled by some drunk. so now I have a VW Jetta but still can't stop thinking about the dsm.
