so to my question is this going to be just a routine head gasket replacement
because my buddy did it on his and he said that it was a nightmare
he said the intake manifold was a nightmare.. { but i read on this forum that if you take off the throttle body its not to bad.}

thanks for any help info or advice.

Chiltons or Haynes manual will be your best friend! pick one up because it's worth the money

Its fairly straight forward on the 4G63 motor. I can have the head off from popping the hood to on the ground in about 30 mins with a few tricks I have picked up over the years. Most of it depends on what tools you have and how experienced you are with mechanics...

Rule #1 : Remove the head with the exhaust manifold/turbo OFF and the Intake manifold ON. Taking off that intake manifold and THEN removing the head, and vice versa is a nightmare and there's no sense in it.

Im a little experienced i guess and i have a small 400$ sears tool set and a small impact set.

ok cool thanks ill remember that.

If it's a 6 bolt engine you can reuse the stock headbolts with no issues. If it's a 7bolt they are torque to yield and must be replaced along with the headgasket. Also don't use a chinese graphite gasket such as the evergreen. I'd recommend you stick to the oem mitsu composite.

As it's been proven time and time again, if you're in a pinch you can use the fel-pro/store brand. But if your buddy loves his car just take the time and do it right. Triple check your timing belt work before attempting first start-up. And more than likely you'll want to replace some timing belt components while you're in there that may be worn out, for example, hyd. tensioner, pulleys, t-belt, bs belt, water pump.

Since the turbo is out it would be a good time to replace all those coolant lines as well. Make that dsm a good reliable car:thumb::cool:.
