Hi guys. I want to change my suspension and after a lot of search i was about to buy a Tein the uk model but unfortunately they stop producing it so i have to get something else. Because i'm from Europe and i can't get the suspension from US because of the shipping cost the second option is Kw V3 that is a little bit expensive but everybody said is a good suspension. My question is about the spring rate because i want a street suspension that's not so stiff and can be used on normal rods. For example the Uk Tain had a 392-224 spring rate and the US model have 500-340 lbs/inch and the Kw V3 have 525 in front. The stock suspension is 240-150 if i'm not wrong so a 500lbs suspension will be twice stiffer the the stock one. I want also to lower my car a little bit for a nice look and i'm wandering what should i buy and if i can find it in Europe. I'm gonna have 225/40/18 tires with 43 offset wheels. Thanks!

Thanks guys. I'll have a look. What do u guys think...should i use 225/40/18 tires or 235/40/18 without rubbing or rolling the fenders. My wheels are et48 not like i thought first but if i have to...i'll use spacers. Thanks

If you haven't bought the wheels yet, then neither. There is no reason to put 18s on a DSM. 245/40/17 on a 17x8 +40.

As to the suspension, Konis with springs or KW V3s are both good options. Teins are not and K-Sports are just awful. I cannot imagine that you have roads smooth enough where you are to run Asian stuff.

I did buy the wheels because i have already 17'' on my car and is not looking so good with stock suspension...maybe if i could lower it a little bit then it's much better...but i don't think it will look bed with 18'' wheels. About the suspension...i want to buy the KW v3 but is 2K$ and i'm not sure if i should buy it. I could cut from suspension money and put it on a big brake kit.

I did a search and after reading a lot o threads about suspension i'm going with Koni shocks and ground control springs kit. In this way i can lower the car as much as i want and have a good suspension. Do i need something else with this setup and what spring rate should i chose for a daily drive street car. Thanks!

Is anyone kind enough to tell me please if i need something else with koni and ground control setup? And what spring rate to choose to have a comfortable ride in a daily drive car. The default is 430-300 lbs. I already place the order so i have to tell them what springs should i have. Thanks!

Dude, if you're going to let what it looks like over-rule what will actually make the car handle better, then this thread is in the wrong forum. This is handling tech, not appearance. That's why I stopped replying.

I think you got me wrong. Just because i said i don't like the way 17 wheels looks and i want to lower a little bit the car it does't mean i don't care about handle. If i didn't i could buy a cheap coilover kit and be done with it

I was on a ski touring trip in Romania trip 4 years ago. I loved the country, culture and history of Romania. Yes the roads are like bad county roads here in Colorado. Could you finish your profile so we can tell what to suggest for your next modd. Here in Colorado I have a 1st gen. I have 375* with 275* with gound control coil over. I also agree with 235x45x17" tires and 17x8" wheels. You might check my profile for some ideas for suspension. Are you from Britain or the USA?
I learned so much visiting your country.

I'm glad to hear you had a good time in my country. Since you been there the rods are much better but not like they should be so a stiff suspension it will be a nightmare. I just place an order for GC and i will have 430 front and 300 rear at their suggestion...so i'm hoping i'll get a good street suspension together with Koni's. I'm from Romania and having this car and trying to "upgrade" it here is a difficult task.

The ride quality of a 2G is, of course, mostly determined by the valving of the shocks, but the second most important part is the rear spring rate. You can go much, much higher than 430 in the front and not have a bad ride with Konis. Right now, with your plan, the 300s in the rear are the limiting factor for ride quality.

I'm not saying that you should drop the rears, but I am saying that 430/300 makes very little sense to me, given what you've said. I'd be at at least 600 in the front with 300 rears, or down around 250 in the rear with 430 fronts.

Not blaming you. Sometimes GC makes really bad suggestions for 2Gs. Plus, they sell those shock-shaft-bending black rocks that they call bushings, so maybe they just hate 2Gs.

Thanks for your answer. After reading about spring rate with konis i was thinking 430/300 it might be not a good suggestion. When i first ask GC about spring rate and what they will recommend for a street car i was thinking the rears will be about 250 and the front around 450...and after i got their email i did ask them if i can get softer spring rate and they said "Those are the softest rates recommended for a street car." I don't know what to do...i still have time till monday to change the order when the package will be shipped. Should i order the RRE upper plates or a pillow ball mount to use with konis and GC?

As I said, sometimes the guys at GC are pinheads (or just hate 2Gs). Personally, I'd cancel the order and get KWs. The valving is as good as Konis. Plus, you can't get plates from RRE any more and no-one has found a new supplier. But you can get plates for KWs from KW.

If you can't cancel and they refuse to send anything less than 300s for the rear, get 550 fronts. Seriously, the front springrates don't play much of a role in ride quality.

Doesn't RTM still make these

I would like the KW V3's but is twice the price and i can use those money to buy something else plus i already place the order and charge my credit card. I had a look on GC website and in the picture the have some upper plate and i'm very confuse about what this kit...is having only the springs and the threaded collar? In a lot o pictures i've seen with this suspension is no dust cover and i'm wandering what parts do i need more and what can i use from the old suspension.

I just got a email from GC aNd they changed the order. Now i have:
GC 180.64.75: 7 inches long, 2 1/2 I.D., 430 lbs/inch
GC 180.64.44: 7 inches long, 2 1/2 I.D., 250 lbs/inch usually rear
Hope is the good one for me
