is it doable to sneak the motor out without the tranny? does removing the balancer and pulleys gain enough clearence to slide the clutch off the input shaft?

Its do-able, but harder....

I know there are topics on how people got it out without the tranny. Id search for that.

Why not just take everything? Its not that much more work.

i am lazy. i dont want to deal with the 3 driveshafts floping around when i push the car outside . now i know it is possible it is what i will do. maybe i'll do a write up if one does not allready exist.

I've been part of an engine pull where we didn't even remove the crank pulley. I was not really in favor of that decision. The crank pulley wedged against the frame rail and the only way to clear it was by whacking it with a mini-sledge, so in the end it was destroyed. If you take off the crank pulley, it should come out without too much fuss. I think it's easier just to pull it as a unit, though.

I didnt take off my crank pulley and the engine came out fine......

But ya...Do a search. Its been said how to do.

Yes, I pulled it without taking the tranny out. Little to much of a pain in the ass to do it that way. When the engine was ready to go back in I pulled the tranny and mounted it to the engine and dropped the whole thing in as one. This was a MUCH better way of doing it. From then on, it was in\out as one unit.

its easier purely from being able to access the tranny bolts,
unless you have a lift at your disposal,

and then theres always the torn/frayed broken stuff that goes when something goes wrong

ok so i have everything unbolted. i see why this is not common practice. as far as i can tell it is not even possible. i have the pulley out, crank bolt out and the accessories out. there is not even close to enough clearance. i need about 2 inches more to get the clutch outta the bell. it may be because of my clutch flywheel combo. now i have to drop the tranny. damn.

jack the tranny up, while the motor is moving out also. just did this with a buddy of mine. But the hard part was puttin it back in. Take it out as a complete assembly. More time will be spent tryin to pull it n put it back in, with the tranny still in the car
