Question about Downpipe Cat and Catback

im planning on doing a full exhaust setup soon. whats a good setup? i want to get a apexi N1 downpipe and N1 catback, but my concern is the cataylic converter, i want one cause of emissions here. any brand of downpipe do you guys recommend? which would better between RRE and Buschur's downpipe? what's a better quality exhaust system HKS Carbon Ti or Apexi N1? and finally whats a good high flow cataylic converter or a regular one? thanks

I have heard a lot more positive feedback on the Apexi N1 Exhaust System. Go check the parts review forums and there should be some reviews on that exhaust.

The way I see it, exhaust is just piping, and its pretty much all the same. Muffler, tip, and cat/no cat are what makes the sound, and of course whether your turbo or na. I would just get a nice downpipe, pick out a muffler that gives the sound you like, and have an exhaust shop build the cat-back for you.

There is just no point to paying tons of money for a full name brand system.

I was looking at the Apexi set up as well. ExtremePSI had the whole deal for about $670, a couple weeks ago. Check with them and see if you can get a Cat' Converter instead of eh test pipe. Let me know please if you go this way as I'd like to know how think the system sounds.

Tanabe has a downpipe with keeps the cat. The also have catback system that are not extreme loud. but they are not as cheap as ebay ones.

I have the Apexi N1 catback at the moment and its not that loud either. It has more of a Grunt sound then ricey sound. It just has that huge muffler and makes it look too big for the rear of the car?

I got a HKS highpower exh. with a 3" vrs downpipe with no cat but I don't hve to pass emissions. Its all 3" and its not as loud until you step on it.. deep tone too...

catalytic depends on the state you are in. some states simply do a visual, others test tail pipe emissions. If they just do a visual you can usually get by with a high flow cat.
In NC they just do an odbii test and a visual.
I have a Megan down pipe that I got off of ebay, cut the pipe and welded in a high flow cat. these things do not restrict the flow the best I can tell. They have two honey combs that you can see through and are 4 inch in diameter. You can get a good exhaust on ebay, but do not buy anything that say "light weight" and do make sure you get stainless steel.

I have got the HKS Ti that looks/sounds great but is flanged for stock cat. DO NOT get a 3inch downpipe with this exhaust...it will not fit. I made that mistake with the Apexi N1 downpipe...its still in the box waiting to be sold. If your going full 3'' turbo back, get Apexi system. If you need to stay emissions legal, your going to have to get inventive. I currently am running the Ti on a high flow cat. I would like to obtain a 2.5'' DP instead of my 3'' N1, that way I will still be high flow and visually look emissions legal.

Check with local club in Chi-town they are fairly active on the local scene. A great way to hear other exhaust manufactures on the car. Then pick out the sound you like best. Like Bushnell exhaust personally.

Most everything including the Apexi N1 and Megan Racing delete the catalytic converter so you will have to have a high flow cat welded in Let me know which route you decide to go, I guarantee the best pricing on any exhaust mentioned here

can I weld this 3" High Flow Catalytic Converter - Automotosports, Inc. to a Apexi N1 Downpipe and Catback exhaust? will this fit good?

Since you are literally cutting out a section of the downpipe that is the length of whichever cat you choose and having it welded in, it will fit however well the welder installs the piece...but in short, yes that cat will work.
