Well I was on my way to class this afternoon when my car decided to die. I went to shift into second and the car just wouldnt move, I had to floor the gas just to go 5mph and get my way into a gas station. Anyone have the slightest idea on what could be wrong? I popped the hood and everything looks fine. The starter will engage but it wont turn over. It got towed to the dealership, so I'm waiting to hear from them. Any ideas on what could have happened?

-UPDATE-
Ok, the dealership called today and told me that the Crank Angle Sensor failed. They told me that they are going to replace it and everything should be fine. I asked about crankwalk and they said that it has nothing to do with crankwalk. Correct me if I'm wrong, but usually doesn't the CAS fail because the crank is hitting it? This would indicate crankwalk, correct? If the car is walking, will it cause the new sensor to fail also? I am getting the car tommorrow and going to have a mechanic check the endplay of the crank. What is the correct spec that endplay should be? Thanks for the help guys

The CAS is located on the end of the intake camshaft, so it should not be broken from the crankshaft. The crank angle sensor is probably what went out. Have them check the crankshaft endplay and if its out of specs ( around 0.008 inches I believe ) you should kick them in the ass and get your money back. :D Let us know what happens!

He has a 97 4G63. His CAS isn't attached to the intake cam. It's close to the crank. Maybe it's walking and hitting it but if it's walking, you would know with a sticking clutch on turns and such.

Maybe it just failed because it failed. Why did my MAS fail? huh? Nothing was hitting it. It's a freakin' car part. It's going to fail sooner or later. This time sooner.

The clutch has been sticking on left turns and even without turning. The clutch has been acting really wierd, sticking, inconsistent engagment, etc. So it had signs of crankwalk and now that the CAS has failed, crankwalk seems to be even more of an issue. My question is, IF it is walking, will the new CAS they put it fail also? If so, will it happen right when it starts or sometime down the road?

And *IF* you had a CAS, it would be on the intake camshaft.
With the clutch engaging eratically, that is a definite sign of crankwalk. Combined with a failed crank angle sensor, this sounds like crankwalk. :(

my car is having trouble starting. my step dad says its my starter and i didnt disagree but my clutch is for sure shot. now, is the car not starting because of a possible bad starter or because of the shot clutch??

Sorry, you have crankwalk.

Make a stink to the dealer is all I can say. Threaten lawsuits, do whatever you have to to get that motor replaced.

Well just got the car back. It started and ran fine, the clutch still sticks though, so I suppose its fixed for a short moment. I'm going down tommorrow to get the endplay checked out. I talked to the dealership mechanic, he had no idea what crankwalk was. I asked him was the Crank sensor damaged and he said no, it looked like it just shorted out, but I didn't get to see it for myself. Thanks for the help, guess I'll find out tommorrow if its really walking.

Might try taking it to an independent mechanic first to check the endplay, then to the dealer, just in case they try to screw you (assuming you do have CW).
