Mitsubishi Quality

I am thinkin about buyin a new DSM along teh lines of a 99 GSX but i hate the quality of mine ... is it just because its a 97 RS or is it just all mitsubishi stuff sucks ... like doors rattle ... there are all kinds of unknown noises here n there and ive just noticed its not my friends car its just mine that does stuff like this, Do i just have a piece of shit or is this how all models are... even the high n mighty gsx Thanks

All models will develop noises/rattles etc. with more miles or hard driving. RS, GS, GST, GSX, they're all the same quality wise. Your friends car may have been taken better care of, better previous owner possibly.

Im pretty sure random rattling and the such are common place for DSMs buddy. Im sure many 2g'ers are familiar with the famous window rattle.

My windows dont even roll up right anymore. they sometimes stop. They go off track I dont know. Its a quirk of the car.

Im sure a 99 GSX would still be pretty solid though. For now. DSMs are kind of cheaply made imho. I mean, its not a piece of crap, but no luxury car, for sure. I dont mind it though. Im just a 20 yr old dude trying to get from point a to b.

Thanks... yea my window slipped off track a few times even broke a bolt in teh window assembly are the 4g63 any more reliable then the 420a.... yea mabye it was teh owner before me but if my new one is liek this im sellin it and goin toyota or acura
Especially SUPRA thats if i cant go without bare necessities to pay my insurance bill

Mitsubishi went completly cheap on the 2gs. Even the 3gs are crap. Face it, its a poorly made car and its going to rattle and feel cheap, but its fun, fast, and look damn good thats why most of us have them. My windows rattle, dont go up right, and everything else. The car is just cheap, pales in comparison to the condition my 89 prelude is in as far as interior and rattles go. Quality, Honda > Mitsubishi, but i love my car b/c it will show most cars around here the talon tails.

I say the 4g63 is more reliable.

420a isnt bad. i mean, its a neon motor, but so what?

I think stock for stock reliability is about the same, 4g63 has more components to break though (turbo and all) but I think it can be just as reliable as the non-turbo...its upgrades that tend to make the motor go south without proper tuning.

I think all cars are subject to interior rattle, my corolla does it, though 2G DSMs do have a famous window rattle problem.

Hmmm, well, at 75,000 miles, my 2G is still rattle-free except for the sunroof. Windows close fine. There's some window rattle when a door is closed with window down, but not much (my old CRX was much worse). It's solid when rolled up. Having been a honda owner, I'm actually pleasantly surprised at how well the mitsubishi has held up

well, hmm whats to say.. most of it was covered previously. My car, 120,500 miles, drivin hard, oxidizing paint, rattle windows when up or down(easy fix, just to lazy to do it..), previous owner took very poor care of her. Good news is, interior jobs are cheap and there is always someone that has the hook up on paint jobs. I am not disappointed at all, cheap to fix back to OEM or even better and she pulls harder then ever.

My another car 88 galant which has 4g63 engine has now 378 000km driven... and works fine

I know a dude who's galant is 607 000km driven

Mine was super solid when i bought it at 78k. Its gone to shit in the past 20k. Just make sure you keep up on the maintanence b/c i think you can agree w/ me that the interior is cheaply made, its pretty obvious.

I dont care if it's a lexus, all cars will at one point develop creaks and rattles with age. these rattles and creaks can be fixed quite easily, just try to figure out where theyre coming from, and tighten what's loose, or replace what's worn or broken. common 2G rattles that I have successfully fixed are, window rattle, sunroof, 2 different trunk rattles, and one that came from under the center console (spare change had somehow slipped down inside) and several underhood rattles. Be patient, and you'll find your problem.
