Ok, I just got my new ACT clutch kit. The shop I will prob be taking it to gave me some options while I had my tranny down. One was replacing some case near the back of the tranny? Another, was changing over to synthetic oil?

In the situation I'm in, I'm stuck out of town with my family a long ways from home. I'm needing to just stick this kit in there and be on my way spending the least amount of money possible. Also in other treads people have said to resurface the flywheel, is this really necessary? I have a 99 GST with exhaust and 79k miles on it also it's a daily driver.

I get it put in Fri so any help by then would be great. Thanks!

Case? Need more info on that. As far as the oil, its just a bit higher than running 75w-90w gear oil, or what ever your car calls for exactly.

I have a 96 and run synthetic oil, but thats what my transmission calls for.

Just tell the bone heads to put in the clutch, the type of oil they took out of it, and be on your way. Your flywheel should be fine.

Personally if you have the opportunity to get the flywheel done...do it. But if they are just going to swap out the clutch in one day you may not have the opportunity to do it as it takes time to get it into a machine shop.

I guess just hope for the best and leave the stock one in there, or for better piece of mind find one around or get a new one you can resurface quickly.

You can get a new flywheel for 80 bucks. Surfacing should cost about half that.

Both of those prices are probably quite a bit less than what you're spending on labor for the install. You'd be pretty pissed if as soon as you got the car back you had to have it done all over again.

And i'd guess the case they're talking about is the transfercase, which you don't have, that's only for AWD.

FWD?!! why can't you change it in your driveway? I've never done a gst clutch but the only reason I like a lift for the awd is exhaust and driveshaft are easier to remove. My old prelude took like 3-4 hours for a clutch.

aside from that surfacing is cheap insurance to not do it later. Also, with my act 2600 + act 12lbs fw when I reinstalled them my clutch wouldn't disengage. After replacing the pivot ball and fork AND shimming it with one washer it worked perfectly, sans, a minor adjustment at the pedal. Those two parts cost me another 8 hours taking out and puttin in. Good Luck!

I took the advice of many and am getting my flywheel resurfaced. Also, I'm replacing my rear crank seal. On top of all this, I now have a huge oil leak ( bone dry ) and I made lake oil in my moms garage.

do you know for sure that the leak is coming from the rear main?

The oil leak was caused from a loose drain plug.

Now, here is my new story. I took my car to a new shop and they found out my clutch didn't go out, it was my master slave cylinder. So they fixed it and now my car works again. Heres my new problem. I now have to barely touch the clutch pedal to shift. The disengagement point is right at the top. The guys told me that this might be a sign of the clutch going out for real this time. Driving my car is a pain in the butt now. Is the clutch going out on me or is it just my new clutch hydraulics?

It was the clutch after all... YAH! :notgood: It went out on me on my drive back home. Got it towed the rest of the way and am going to put in the clutch kit that I'm glad I didn't send back.
