Found lots of "how-tos" but couldn't fine "why you should remove" posts...

Besides the obvious, what is the purpose of removing the cruise control cables? I picked up a used 2G and I kind of want the cruise control for long trips. Need to know why it was removed to begin with so that I can weigh the pros and cons.

1. Simplicity
2. More room to work with under the hood
3. Weight reduction

Yeah, thats all I can think of right now. I never use mine, so I took it out, along with a bunch of other stuff I don't know. I like my car to be minimalist...its really up to you though. If you think you'll use it, keep it.

Trash that stuff man. My cruise control actuator (or whatever sits on the shock tower) when bad and my engine kept revving up all time once the car warmed up. Long story short the IAC motor locked up and burnt up part of my 95 ECU.

A lot of people on here only drive their cars seasonally and have no use for Cruise. Others are mainly track cars that won't ever use cruise. Then there are people like me that take the cruise out because it makes the engine bay less cluttered. Plus it makes it easier to get back behind the intake manifold with wrenches and whatnot. Also, some of the units no longer work and it's just time to get rid of them.

It's all personall preference. The only time I would ever want cruise is on a long trip. And I have only taken 2 of those in this car.

My 1g CC was a nightmare of all imagination. The throttle cable came out from the fire wall, ran across the width of the engine bay to the cruise actuator assembly, then came back out and ran all the way back across the engine bay and finally to the throttle body. The length alone was a prob', and the weight loss was insignificant, BUT, the single short cable from a Non-CC car made my throttle response fantastic.:hellyeah::hellyeah: The old cable felt like I was trying to to squeeze mud through a straw.

My car is a daily driver and have taken it on many 3+ hr drives and I'll admit the CC would be nice, but the penalty of it, doesn't off-set how good my throttle feels.

Exactly, it frees up alot of room in the engine bay. I can't tell you how many times I crushed my knuckles on the CC module. I wish I had it for trips but I generally don't take many in the DSM.

Removed mine because it was ugly, Always in the way, Over all length of the cable must of been 20'+ and even on road trips i wont use CC. No matter the vehicle.

I also get better gas mileage WITHOUT using the CC. On my car, it can't hold a constant throttle position. It constantly surges up and down, putting me into boost, then out. I think I'm removing mine this summer...

Oh, and I go to school 2 hours from home. Next year will be 3 hours. I almost never use the CC now. My car is my one and only DD.

Dsms and long trips don't mix anyway. Just leave it out because it is better that way.

Clean up that mess of an engine bay, on my fire wall wiper control, and fluid holder brackets, thats it everything else is removed or hidden.

Oh, they mix quite well if you maintain the car. I'd leave for a US tour in my car tomorrow if someone would pay for the gas.

This isn't the thread for it, but I've only had my car break down once. And that was a broken alternator/water pump belt.

That's with 20k miles since I bought it. I've done 700mile trips without worrying. :D
And the body of my car has 219k miles. The PO had the turbo, engine, tranny all replaced due to poor maintenance.

But like I said, this isn't the thread for this debate.

Cruise control removal:
Pros - Cleaner engine bay. Better throttle feel.
Cons - Have to hold the gas pedal down for long trips. Might have to make a stop to strech out the ankle.

Both my DSM's did the same thing. They don't hold a constant position. I tried adjusting the cable and it helped keep the car out of boost but, it still wasn't perfect.
