2G Purge valve solenoid?

Check engine light is on and had it checked at 3 different locations. The code that comes up is for the purge valve solenoid. Says it is not getting power. When I give it power the car shuts off it will not run. How many volts should it be getting? Should it have constant power or intermediate? Any input is greatly appreciated!!

You need to be careful about applying power to solenoids, if you incorrectly do it you can blow parts of the ECU.

You should measure the resistance of the coil in the solenoid and check the voltages but I'm expected that you need to replace the solenoid.

PS fill out a profile or make sure you specify in your post what car you asking the question about. The year and model usually make a big difference.

Sorry I thought my wife had everything filled out haha. I will do that after. Right now it's come down to me actually tracing the wire back to make sure it was still good, which it is.

Thank you for the link. It was very helpful. So far we know the solenoid is good. Traced the wire and they are good. So there is 2 more things to try. And it's 99 rs 5spd.

Solenoids that are computer controlled are usually ground triggered. Pcms dont normally provide the power to components, too high a risk of damaging the pcm. Grab a wiring diagram before you start applying voltage. Backfeeding a pcm can certainly stall the car.

Had it tested again and a transmission code came up as well. So we have narrowed it down to the computer. Code says the transmission isn't getting a signal which it shouldn't be doing that with it being a manual transmission? Researched the computer and we are finding that it can only be replaced with a computer from a 98 or 99. Is this true or can we install one from a previous year as long as it's for manual transmission?

Dont remember the code just remember what the code said which was that the transmission wasnt getting a signal. We now know that it needs a new computer but it can only be replaced from a 99 eclipse, sebring or avenger. Not very easy to find the other 2 in a 5spd manual transmission. And every 5spd eclipse I find is either the wrong year or completely stripped of all parts.

Thank you. Really need to get this fixed because here in PA cars won't pass inspection in certain counties if the engine light is on. Unfortunately I live in one of those counties and I can't go to a different county for inspection.
