pull then all oil lose?

my friend just got a 91 tsi awd. it needs some maintenance for sure, it is on like 17lbs with a 20g untuned. anyways he did a pull from the end of the block and then turned around came back, let it cool down and when it shut off, all the oil drained out? almost looks like oil pan gasket, but are there any gaskets/seals in the inner timing cover that it might have leaked from?

It's possible but unlikely. Check the oil filter area, I had the bolt the oil filter attaches to backout during a pull. A matter of seconds and I lost 2 quarts of oil.

check the oil return line gasket so. alot of dsm's mave the problem of the return line leaking.

an oil pan gasket wouldnt leak out 2 quarts of oil for 2 min of running. you have something loose somewhere

i would look at anything that oil runs threw thats external if its not comming from the pan. try the oil feed line and return. what about the rear main seal.

^^^+ 1 all good ideas. it is very rare to come from the timing belt side of your friends motor. same goes for the oil pan gasket. check your oil filter housing and return lines for turbo. it should be easy to spot with that much oil coming out.

Check the gasket that goes between the cooler and the oil filter housing. There's a nut underneath the oil filter that could back out.

BE SURE NOT TO OVERTIGHTEN THE NUT. Too much pressure will crush the cooler housing letting oil and water mix.

i put some oil in today and ran it, about 10 seconds into running it, it all starts to pour out from the lower timing cover case, which might be the oil pump gaskets?

It's possible, but unlikely.

Another possibility is that the pull could have pressurized the crankcase, and blown out any number of seals behind the timing cover. If that's the case your friend probably needs to rebuild his/her engine... Unless it turns out to have a plugged crankcase breather.

just today a good friend of mine cracked his front cover by tightening the bolt to tight. make shure you didnt do that like my dumb friend did. dont ask me how it happend but it lost about 3 quarts after a first start for almost 2 minutes.
