well i guess i did it this time...my friend took my car out to race a mustang right...pulls next to the stang.they start pulling and my friend lets off im like whats goin on here? so my friend comes back and hes complaining of low oil(no knock).im saying to myself i cant believe this motor didnt make it over 2000 miles:cry: but i get oil put it in and start it(KNOCK) idles fine but knock only when reved? can anyone please help this stupid newbie:dsm:

im trying to look on the brighter side of this can it be fixed just if i spun the bearing? i know i was stupid i just want the help and knowledge so i wont do it again:toobad:

one more thing when i tried to turn the cams they would go only so far then stop? and can anyone tell me whats the torque specs on the cam caps? thanks alot guys i love this website:dsm:

i was trying to see if my valves hit the pistons.but when i turn the cams either way it stops about 90 degrees from where i started

Did you time it wrong or did your timing belt jump a tooth? It sounds more like bottom end knocking to me. Also did you pull out the balance shafts and forget to turn the bearings? Without being able to hear the car we can't tell you much. Just drop the pan and pull the caps and replace the bearings you don't have to pull the engine to do it unless the crank has grind marks in it hopefully you caught it in time.

i hope i caught it in time..i checked the head and no grinding of the cams and everything seems to be ok. but the oil thats left on the head smells burnt up:cry:

When my oil pump went out it did exactly what you are describing. It would knock only if I revved the engine. If its a muffled sounding knock then you probably spun a bearing like mine did. If it was piston to head contact you would know it, as its usually louder and more of a metal on metal sound, if that makes any sense.

my timing belt was on until my idiot friend cut it off on me.the knock is more of like a clank clank sound..my cam lobes turned blue from the heat but only on the exhaust side...if i spun a bearing how would it start to clank? my motor is freshly rebuilt with 2000 miles on it.i shouldnt be even allowed to own this monster:sosad:...thanks for all the advise my oil pan is comming down today and ill find the damage thats done,,

Spun bearing usually means that the rod is allowed to move around on the crank causing the knocking noise. Mine was ate up, there wasn't much bearing left. Dropping the oil pan is a good idea, but you might be able to just drain the oil and see if there is any metal shavings in it.
