1G pte dbb 6266 oil pressure question...

So im currently running a oil feed line off the head through a aeroflow feed line filter. I am running your standard 12an oil feed line. The car doesnt smoke at all but im still worried that i might be running to much pressure to the turbo. How do people really verify how much oil flow they are getting to the turbo. I have a fp -black colored filter/ restrictor also but I dont want to use it if i dont have to. The turbo seems to be very happy as is. Im also running vp 20w50 racing oil....my oil clearances were set to .003 on the rods and the crank and im still seeing 3/4 + of the gauge of oil pressure when driving. At idle im a little left of the first line.

I tee'd off my OFH line and temporarily hooked up my oil pressure guage to check my turbo pressure but not volume of flow. I am running a aftermarket guage along with my stock dummy gauge.
 
12an drain, 4an line from head.....car doesn't smoke and the turbo looks great so should I assume im ok? Im probably overthinking it but some people claim the turbos come restricted from the factory, others say not........
 
im gunna be hitting the dyno soon so I wanna make sure everything that's bothering me gets ironed out. June 2 im hitting up Lebanon Valley....hopefully getting into those tens

From what I understand they come with a oil restrictor , yet people still say to run them. All I know is that bb turbo require a lot less oil to operate while journal bearings require a lot dependent on how much oil your return can evacuate.
 
The oil restrictor is built into the CHRA, pte will void your warranty if you feed from the head and if you use an inline filter, this is because the filter If not checked and cleaned regularly can starve the turbo of oil if clogged. unless it's a remote oil filter which uses a normal size car oil filter. I had a chat with them. They recommend tapping it unrestricted from the oil filter housing with a -4AN, this is because the oil filter housing has a constant pressure/volume, while the head can have far less pressure and an inconsistant volume of oil. I run a 6466DBB this recomended way
 
This is what I figured.....I check the filter on the regular. You run the turbo directly off the ofh without a restrictor or anything?
 
I think I'm going to keep it as is for now, it doesn't smoke and the cars running great. These cars don't let you forget. I literally have something off the car each time I drive it to check things over.... part of building a race car I guess

You should still check with precision about the proper install regarding your warranty... you dont wanna be SOL if something were to happen

Honestly man, I have read so many occasions were turbo companies blamed a filter on a failure when clearly that wasn't the issue. I think if u keep the turbo air filtered, watch your oil filter and oil level/ health with a correct oil drain. You should be ok.....guess we will see
 
How about following recommendations of people running these turbos? I am on my #3 PTE ball bearing turbo. I bought it brand new in 2014. Car is driven plenty. Oiled from the OFH with the FP filter/restrictor in line in addition to the inbuilt CHRA restrictor the turbo comes with with NO issues. I have 0 balance shafts. Car runs a lot of boost (35psi+) and my turbo is still mint. I pretty much run ball bearing turbos only and have been doing so for almost 15 years it seems. My first one being the SBRGT12. I then ran a FP3065 for years. Switched to a 6776, then GT35R, GT30R and now 6466. None of these turbos failed and my car(s) were not garage queens. I will be honest, I was apprehensive buying the "dry" ceramic ball bearing turbos because I run my stuff hard but it has worked great.

The oil line filter is a serviceable item. Clean it every oil change. Like most people who run E85, I don't even do 1500 miles before oil changes.

BUT, if something were to happen, you can bet PTE would tell you, you are up shits creek because of the additional restrictor, even if it wasnt cause of failure. Glad you're having succuess. But in all honesty, to recommend that to others is asking them to take a gamble on their warranty coverage. Every motor is different and will act differently to some extent
 
I am 100% comfortable with my recommendation from my experience. This is one of those YMMV. Weigh the pros/cons and make your own decision. You can take the risk and contaminate your $2000 turbo or do what some of us have done successfully. Keep in mind your warranty is only good for 12 months. BTW, I forgot to mention my car spun several bearings last year. If I had not been running that filter, I would not have a turbo.
 
I think we can all agree that regardless of the feed location the ball bearing cartridge doesn't require a large amount of oil to operate. I think as long as your oil isn't contaminated and the pressure isn't sky high you should be ok. A lot of turbo companies make excuses, even if your do everything as your told they can tell u oh no that was caused by a external object being sucked into the compressor sorry. The Subaru guys were dealing with this with the Fp green.....
 
Why would you NOT want to run the FP filter? thats an expensive filter to not use it, and its not really pressure that is a problem as much as it is volume when it comes to ballbearing cartridges.
