prothan motor mount install??

No, you should not need to burn out your factory motor mounts. The front and rear are just inserts and the side mounts a total replacements. You just press these in. It is not that hard to do.

There is a metal sleeve on the inside of the stock motor mounts. What I did was use a chisel and a hammer and bent the sleeve towards the inside of the mount until I could simply just hammer it out. Clean up the edges and the new prothane motor mount will just drop in without a fuss. Seems hard to do but it takes 30 minutes a motor mount.

Bought a set of black prothanes from SBR, I decided to go black instead of red...

But to get the mounts out I went to the local Big Truck Work Shop and used a press to oress out the sleeve and such..

From there just took a little sand paper cleaned up the mount, painted it black, and installed mounts...

I would also stick with the Prothane mounts. I wouldn't recommend getting them off of ebay (even if they are Prothanes). I would stick with one of our supporting vendors or whatever's cheapest.

I think you misunderstood me. A prothane mount is a prothane mount. They are all the same material. Cheap or expensive they are the same, no difference unless you want black or red.

yeah its hard to notice because it right flush inside the outter ring that is the mount. I used a sawsall and inserted the blade right where there is a hole in the stock rubber, then carefully cut the inner metal sleeve only enough to cut through it but not harm the outter mount ring. The slight width of the cut allows the metal sleeve to colaps just enough that the old rubber can be hammerd out.
....I wish I could explain it better for you. You just need a vise, sawsall, and hammer for this method.

Maybe I am misunderstanding this, but if they are just inserts then why does it need to be removed? I just got the ES front and rear inserts. The smaller of the two inserts seems to be really flimsy, but the other looks to be good. It also only came with 2 washers, should there be 4?

Thanks

You have to press out all the original mounts for the 1g, the replacements are pushed in by hand. The replacements come in halves with a metal spacer in the middle.
I had to cut the front one in half to install, it not sure why it wasn't already in half, maybe thats why they were inexpensive.
They are really stiff and make the car shake a little at idle but it smooths out at cruising speed. Over all I like them!!!

I have not replaced the mounts in a 2g

Here is a good tech article that was just written on how to install Prothane motor mounts - http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=270117&highlight=prothane

I know you have the ES mounts but I'm not sure if they're the same or if they're all just inserts (meaning they push into the stock mounts). The tech article doesn't show the inserts, just the full replacements.

There are only two washers to be used with the ES kit. Use them on the FRONT motor mount. No need (or even space for) washers with the rear inserts.
