I just seized a new oil pump that I was told was oem when I bought it so, I bought a brand new one from extreme. I need to know everything I need to check and do when putting this one together and what I need to do to prime it. Im planning on checking the rod bearing while im in there. The car ran for a whole 8 second before the pump seized and stopped the motor so im praying the bearings are ok. This was a 3k build that I dont want to f up and im hoping I havent already. I originally put the pump together and packed it full of assambly lube. But I didnt clean up the gears or check the case for metal shavings. I also didnt spin it with a drill. Any help would be nice! I dont wanna ruin this new one I just spent $380 on.

If you're going to install it, prime and fire the engine all the same day you can use a nice, thick assembly lube to pack the pump. If it's going to sit for more than a day until you start it up then you're going to want to use something thicker like grease so it will stay put until you start it up.

I did that last time and it seized. Any other precautions?? Ive read up about using a small light file on the gear. Was hoping someone had some input on that. I read also to throw a drill on the pump and spin it till you have oil coming from the turbo feed.

Sounds like it was just a bad pump for whatever reason. We've never seen this problem first hand. In our experience if the pump moves oil when it's primed everything will be ok. Every now and then we get a pump that wont prime though.

i was told by m2 racesystems to pack mine with vaseline, ive built 4 motors this way and never had a problem, all still runing with over 10,000 miles. i know 4 motors isnt a drop in the bucket compared to jackson but its a start

Ya no doubt, Ive just herd alot so im trying to get a good idea and advise from as many experienced guys as I can. Jackson, do I need to do any sort of priming? Pull the coil plug and crank it for a minute or anything? Would it hurt to spin the pump with a drill?? I just have no idea if my oil pressure guage works. The jdm swap that was originally in the car before I did this build only came with the oil light. Ive now installed a used pressure sender but i still dont know if it works. I have a mechanical but its not installed yet. Autozone has a copper line install kit I was looking at but I have no idea if it has the adapter needed to thread into the ofh so I didnt grab it. Anyone have any advise on that as well?? I really dont wanna screw up this new case i just bought.

I've always spun mine with a drill. I pull the oil cap and look at the top of the rockers and make sure oil is coming out. I continue to spin it for a good minute after that to make sure the whole system is nice and lubed. The head is the last place to get oil so if it's coming out of the rockers then you should be fine.

Yes you need to prime the engine before you start it. If you didn't, that could be a contributing factor to your premature failure. Take the belt off and spin the pump with a drill until oil is coming out of all 16 rockers/lifters.

Ya thats where I screwed up. I packed it with lube, then pulled the plug and cranked it for a minute. But i guess that wasnt enough... I should have spun it with a drill. This time I wont make the same mistakes! Deburing... Any input on that? Ive herd of metal shavings in there too? Any ideas on that?
Thanks for your help!!
